Battlestar Galactica With Hot Cylon Action
In the super nerd catalog Previews and now on Toy News International there was some Battlestar figures of note for fans of the show:

This is the third series features Lieutenant Kendra Shaw, the young William Adama, and the classic looking Cylon all from the Razor mini-series. The Cylon is the big get here, of course, because he’s the throwback to the original series. The wave also includes a Previews exclusive figure of Gina Inviere. She’s the Number Six that was all lesbo on the original commander of the Razor, which really wasn’t that shocking.
I don’t like Diamond Selects take on Battlestar Galactica at all. This is most likely caused by the fact that I like a lot more than two points of articulation in my figures. It was an incredible let down when I first found out that the figures were along the lines of plastic statues rather than true action figures, especially considering how excited I was about the possibility of having figures from the series (See my Battlestar Galactica Toy Wish List 1, 2, and 3 if you haven’t already). According to Toy News International these figures are supposed to have twenty points of articulation. I can see where the Cylon might have that much, but they must hide it really well on the rest of the figures. I’m also not that hot on the six inch scale for everything. I know I’m going to get bashed for this, but I’m a 3.75″ figure collector. I’ll get six inch figures from time to time, but with my space is severely limited so I have to be really picky with anything larger than the good old three inch size.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot. If you like Battlestar Galactica be sure to check out Watching BSG.com, the Battlestar Galactica blog on my network.

Know what would help with your space issues? Throwing away all that useless plastic.
I was actually surprised by the BSG figures when I saw them in person: the men really are much more articulated than I expected from the promotional photos. The likenesses didn’t really get any better, though. For instance, the Razor “Gina” figure (which is on the page after these three in Previews)? Looks even less like the woman it’s supposed to than that fish-mouthed Starbuck from a while back…

Yikes. That Cylcon looks just awful. The head is about right, but then the body looks like an overgrown, clumsy toaster oven with appendages.

I’m as big of a BSG fan as they come, but I’ll pass on these just like all the others.

GWS: It’s not the “classic” Cylon: it’s supposed to be more of a a halfway step between that and the superior modern versions…
