Bratz Loses Again
Last week, Bratz Doll maker MGA has suffered another stunning defeat by Mattel, the maker of Barbie. A judge in L.A. ruled that MGA can no longer make and sell Bratz dolls. The real tradedy of the situation is that if the appeals don’t work, then there are 1,500 people at MGA that could potentially lose their jobs over this mess, but there’s another side to the story. A reader by the name of “taylor” left a comment on an old post dealing with the lawsuits:
I LUV BRATZ THERE NOT SLUTTY THEIR FASHIOBLE WAY BETTER THAN DUM OLD BARBIES MY DAUGHTER LOVES THEM TO! I THINK THEY SHOULD HAVE A SAVE BRATZ CAMPAIGN TO ALL THE LITTLE GIRLS OUT THEIR WHO DONT DONT WONT BRATZ TO DIE OUT! I LOVE AND SUPPORT MGA
Disregarding the misspellings, poor grammar, and use of all caps, Taylor certainly makes a point here. What if you had a beloved toy line which sold for years and it was suddenly taken from you? I can only imagine how I would have felt in the height of G.I. Joe’s reign over me if a company like Mattel had won a lawsuit that stopped the production of Joes. I wouldn’t be a fan of that other company and I certainly wouldn’t want to buy their toys after a move like that. Hate them if you will, but there’s a lot of girls out there that are totally in love with the big headed alien dolls.
I’ve said this many times, but questions about who did what aside, it is a strange turn of events considering that the only way Barbie could beat the Bratz dolls was through litigation. I think the only way Mattel will be satisfied is when they’ve destroyed all the Bratz doll molds and are feasting on the corpses of the MGA board of directors.

Paul, you’re missing the REAL story here, which is that the value of Bratz on the secondary market just skyrocketed. Quick, to the flea markets and yard sales and swap meets, before the news trickles down! We can make a killing, and it’s okay to scalp stuff you don’t collect!!!

That’s the best idea I’ve ever heard.
Knowing me though, I’d end up with three tons of Bratz toys I couldn’t get rid of.

MGA should mail out notices telling people that Barbie killed Bratz. Just to help push the idea that “Barbie is evil” and help prevent people from moving to Barbie as an alternative.
For what ti’s worth, my daughters have moved more to things like Littlest Petshop over Bratz for a while now.

Hmmm Interesting, I won a lot of about 80 or 90 bratz items at auction, for a buck. They’d just been sitting in the corner for the longest time. Maybe now they will be worth something.

Blah, I hate Bratz dolls. But the point is a good one (except the part about them not being slutty. C’mon, those are some skanky dolls) and I think it would be better if Mattel just let bygones be bygones.

No one likes their favourite toyline ending but thats the way of it. I never knew they started in 2001….Personally this may be a good thing. These things are one of the reasons the toy and animation industry is in such a dire state. I hate this exadurated style.
