Canadian Joe Fans No Longer Getting the Icy Shaft

by Paul

Awhile back I reported that Canadian G.I. Joe fans were due to get some of the ugliest card backs I’ve ever seen. Well, it looks like Hasbro listened to fan outrage and is releasing future Canadian G.I. Joe figures on much improved cards. This news (and the pictures) came via the Canadian headquarters for Joe fans, Joe Canuck.

As you can see, instead of a big empty explosion, Canadian Joe fans will get a background filled with three Joes for Joe figures and three Cobras for the Cobra team. While they aren’t character specific to the figure they will accompany and they will also have the three languages present on the card, they still have at least they still evoke the dynamic nature of the line with the three character selection bursting from the exploding background. I particularly like the Cobra version as it has Cobra Commander and with back up from his faceless army.

I’m tempted to try to get a hold of one each for display purposes. They’ve got an interesting look of their own that should appeal to any G.I. Joe MOC collector. The Cobra one is particularly appealing to me because of Cobra Commander getting the back up from his faceless army of lackeys. If there’s one thing I like, its faceless lackeys.

  1. Esbat Says:

Icy shaft? Is it Icy because of the discomfort or that they’re up north? Wait… I don’t want to know. lol

  2. Great White Snark Says:

Call me crazy, but I liked legless lackeys.

Oh, and re: the cards: much better. Much more in line with the pure retro look of the other 25th ann. cards.

  3. Shawn Says:

That Cobra card is action-packed. I especially like the inclusion of the Python Patrol trooper. Those lucky Canadians get some Python Patrol lovin’ on every Cobra card now.

The Joe card is alright, but it looks like Beachhead is sticking the gun in Flint’s back and Flint is about to elbow Beachhead right in the face. I’m sure Scarlett is the source of their petty bickering.

  4. Paul Says:

@esbat, I just figure shafts are much colder up there.

@GWS I only like lackeys that are legless only when they have tank treds instead of legs.

@Shawn… holy crap I didn’t really look at it like that… it does look like Beach Head is going to shoot Flint in the back.

  5. Esbat Says:

*note to self: never tell him about the mexican cardbacks, warm shafting is discouraged*

  6. yo go re Says:

You’d want to shoot Flint in the back, too, if he kept jabbing you with his elbow.

Those are some sharp-looking cards. It’d be worth getting one just as an oddity…
