Catching Up

The dreaded Cabbage Patch Doll Beast moments before devouring its prey.

*Knock* *Knock* Is this thing on?

Wow, it’s been a few days since I updated. After barely surviving several airline delays and a gigantic taxi cab bill (because our late plane made us miss our train), I’m semi-back to provide partially competent updates. To ease our transition from no updates to a regular schedule of super awesome, I propose we share what we got or gave for Christmas toywise.

Me, I didn’t get anything that was directly toy related. Yep, I had an entirely toy free Christmas. In my experience this is the hard part of being a collector. All the toy lines that I collect have specific items I need, so it’s a little hard to explain just what I’m looking for to the non-toy collectors in my life. To them one clone trooper looks like every other clone trooper. On the whole I’m much happier giving toys and getting either gift cards or videogames and DVDs, because it seems that they are easier to find and much easier to describe. My mother is much more likely to buy me Conan on DVD than find me a Flint mint on card.

As far as giving goes, I’ve already shared the toys I gave out for the most part. However, I found a new Lego Exo-Force tank that I gave to Shawn that is pretty kick ass. The turret turns into a flying vehicle and laser that turns into a mini-robot scout! I guess I’m guilty of giving out gifts to friends that I’d want to get.

So what did you get and what did you give?

So true. Mrs. Ghostal-to-Be laments this every Christmas…and birthday…and anniversary…

As for what I received, I cataloged it all over on PoA.

As for what I gave: Frye and Zoidberg to Mrs. Ghostal-to-Be; a My Little Pony to Sister Ghostal (along with a Kohl’s gift certificate, natch); a Snoopy Snowcone Maker to friend Red Kryptonite; and a DCUC Crime Stopper Batman to Toys for Toys.

Thanks for sharing Poe! I had read your other list, but I like to see what you gave here. I’m glad to see that you donated to Toys for Tots.

    1. That CPK costume scared the hell out of me. Seriously. I can see it at the foot of my bed at night. It feels no pain when you strike it. Bullets are merely absorbed into the soft exterior. There is nothing human inside this plush golem.

    2. Truth be told, I actually get toys (that I want) for Christmas every-single-year when the list is detailed enough.

I print pics of my list and send links to the online guides. If they know how much it means to you, they will care enough to go that extra mile.

Don’t forget to tell them how you will remember where the piece came from, just as you did when you were a child. It’s all tied in.

This is all very “quid-pro-quo” of course. My friends and relatives tend to expect the same thoughtful treatment in return. And they get it too. Christmas is special like that.

    Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.

    Whoa.

If you’re going to give a LEGO Exo-Force tank to one fellow blogger, you have to give a LEGO Exo-Force tank to ALL of your fellow bloggers.

Apparently you never attended third grade in public school.

  5. Paul Says:

PJ, you left out what you actually got!

GWS, the other blogger in question lives with me and is standing up in my wedding. He also got me the Lord of the Rings DVD box sets that I was missing… so maybe if you’d take me out more and start buying ME things you could have your very own tank. lol

  6. XeQUae Says:

Well, this year I got a couple things in the toy department. I got the 18″ Jack Skellington from Medicom which was on clearance at MR. I also got 12″ Sideshow Bespin Luke. While not a toy I also got the Star Wars Vault book, which is very cool and was a total surprise.

For my son I got him a Dancing Spiderman, Hot Wheels and a big Dump Truck. For my Nephews I got some Crocodile Wrangler toy, snowboards and cars. For my Nieces I got some talking Dinosaurs and something else, but I don’t remember.

“PJ, you left out what you actually got!”

A MIB GIJoe Mountain Howitzer bought online from a guy in Australia that wasn’t really MIB with a missing barrel and a repaired right axle.

    No lie.

This of course, makes me want to reverse my previous comment. >;p
