A Hunter and a Johnson

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009

There have been a few McFarlane Halo figures announced over the last few weeks that have gotten me interested in the line again. The first, and most impressive, is the 8 inch scale Hunter figure. The Hunters were always a powerful foe in the Halo series and it’s great to see them get such an impressive debut in the McFarlane line.

Another great looking figure is Sgt. Johnson. Poor Sgt. Johnson… anyway, the most bad ass Sgt. in the Haloverse that strongly resembles a character found in Aliens will be out in October of this year.

Hopefully figures like this will lesson the pain that the announcement that Mega Blocks got the Halo license. And yes, I’ve been meaning to cover that for awhile now but then Toy Fair hit. Dang you Toy Fair and your rush of toy news!

And Now For Something More Gay…

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009

I love Japan. It’s the home of almost anything cool or strange. Adding to that list (depending on your preferences) is the gayest action figure I’ve ever seen! He’s Billy Herrington who is described as a, “…bisexual former gay porn star.” That doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. Anyway, Billy comes complete with dumbbells, a shower stall, and sweat towel.

More hilariously “sexy” poses after the break. I apologize those reading this through the feed only. It’s set to full by the Blogging Overlords. Not my choice, for sure!

Star Wars in Your Face

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

The 2009 Toy Fair had lots and lots of Star Wars news and since I’m only mildly interested in Star Wars toys these days, I decided to drop my thoughts (mostly) in one post. I’ve gone through Jedi Insider’s Star Wars coverage from the 2009 Toy Fair and commented on what interested me the most.

Mail-Away Figure For 2009

starwarsqui-gonn-jinn-and-eopie-mailawayfigure

Wow, how stupid. Qui-Gon Jinn and the Eopie farting animal from the 10th anniversary celebration of that embarrassment known as The Phantom Menace. This is for all the Star Wars collectors that drive me nuts with their, “make this obscure character no one but four of us care about” and “why don’t we have a *insert retarded looking beast here* toy yet?” type of pleas.

Dennis Quaid’s Big Ride

Monday, February 16th, 2009

More and more stuff is leaking out as the G.I. Joe live action movie tie-in toys are being spotted. This last week saw this poorly photographed image of the product offering from the line:

gijoemoviehasbropit

There’s pics of what we’ve seen already, the standard roleplay items, and the obligatory Mr. Potato Head as a Joe. The thing that interests me the most is the huge Pit play set. It doesn’t seem to be getting very much loving from the collecting community and I’m not sure why. Is it the shape? Is it because it’s from the movie and not the U.S.S. Flagg? Further images have surfaced since the 2009 Toy Fair has kicked off and they’ve lead to even more arguing back and forth.

Rock The Marvel Universe Vote

Wednesday, February 11th, 2009

marvel_universe

Over on Hasbro.com Hasbro is giving fans a chance to vote on adding some of their favorite heroes to the Marvel Universe line up (the 3 3/4ths scale Marvel figures). Voting ends March 5th and on March 16th they’ll announce the top five characters that will immortalized into plastic.

Now remember when voting kids, if you pick a figure that’s fairly popular they’ll probably will make it anyway. For example, Psylocke will eventually make it in plastic form with or without your vote. Save your votes for obscure characters so they have a chance to shine!

Here’s my top five that are duking it out for my vote:

He-Mans A-Go-Go

Monday, February 9th, 2009

Mattel’s new He-Mans, I mean Masters of the Universe, are going pretty strong. At the New York Comic Con they showed of several new figures that certainly got me excited.

Man-at-Arms

he-manmattelmanatarms

I’m really digging this Man-at-Arms, because they did the fans a service by including both his “cartoon” head and the head that came on the toy. Man-at-Arms is one of those toys that holds a special place for me, because he’s one of the first action figures I remember getting and he as certainly my first Masters of the Universe figure. In other words, I hope this guy will someday be mine.

DC Infinite Heroes Are… Man Why Do I Try?

Sunday, February 8th, 2009

So after seeing the beauty and majesty that are the Marvel Universe figures, the New York Comic Con had some more DC Infinite Heroes figures on display. Sadly, they again don’t look as good as Hasbro’s Marvel line. Somehow I still manage to find them serviceable enough for me to want to purchase them. What is wrong with me?!

It’s nice to see the Joker finally joining the line-up. I’m digging the cane accessory. I also like the effort they are putting into the packaging to show that they can be a little bit more dynamically posed.

I Think I Will Phone These Fellows About My Ghost Problem

Saturday, February 7th, 2009

After getting super excited about Mattel’s announcement the other day that there would be Ghostbuster toys, I’m more than pleased to see how fantastically awesome they actually look. The three main Ghostbusting crew were shown off at the New York Comic Con and hot diggidy damn they are amazing:

Tauntaun!!1!

Wednesday, February 4th, 2009

I meant to post this awhile ago and then I realized I was posting Lego news almost every day. Since I realize you guys and gals can only handle so much Lego, here it is today.

There were a few Lego sets shown at the Canadian Toy & Hobby Fair held a few weeks ago that were notable for Star Wars fans in that one set gives us the first ever Lego Tauntaun. What? What?!

legotauntaunstarwars

Now that is totally awesome balls. I’m pretty sure my wife would divorce me if I didn’t do whatever I could to get one. After all, she is sporting a nice collection of Star Wars themed animal buddies at this point, which includes a vintage Kenner Tauntaun that I picked up for a whole two bucks at a toy show.

Another set that I’m going to have to sell my kidney to get is the Endor bunker:

legos8starwarsendorbunkerewok

Why do I love this set? Well it’s the perfect excuse to get Ewok mini-figs and a great piece to display figures. Having vehicles is fine and all, but I’d like a more of a playset for my figures and this would be perfect. It would go along great with the now pricey set I forgot I had and then opened up about a year ago during my Lego-mania that temporarily gripped me.

For the rest of the coolness, I’d recommend clicking on this link right here.

The Star Trek Movie Toys Are Still Ugly

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

I was checking out Raving Toy Maniac and I saw some pictures of Star Trek figures I hadn’t for some reason seen yet. First let’s watch some crazy extreme Star Trek action before we look at the crap:

G.I. Joe Trailer To Air During that Bowl that is “Super”

Saturday, January 31st, 2009

There’s only one thing I’m kind of looking forward to during the Super Bowl, the G.I. Joe live action movie trailer. I really don’t care for many sports and I especially don’t care about football. Sure I’ll watch the occasional game or I’d even go to one, but if football disappeared off the face of the Earth I wouldn’t care a bit. Well there’s one thing that’s compelling me to watch the game and it’s the G.I. Joe film trailer (that and the fact I’ve been invited to a Super Bowl party and I desperately need to socialize). A ten second tease was aired already on the usually worthless show Entertainment Tonight to super tease the hell out of us, but here’s a 30 second trailer right here:

Look, I’m not someone who thinks this thing is utter dog crap without seeing it, but I really don’t have much hope. The Baroness looks cool, but I’ve had enough of Matrix-like missile dodging to last me the rest of my life. And I have to admit it, this trailer got me a little bit excited. I can’t help it, it’s friggen G.I. Joe!

Oh yeah and the Transformers 2 trailer will also debut during the “big game.” I wasn’t a super huge fan of the first film, although it didn’t dissapoint me very badly either. It was just kind of there. Hopefully this next film will have less “hilarious” hijinks.

G.I. Joe Resolute Boxy Goodness

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

Images of the G.I. Joe Resolute box set are now out and hot damn, do
In the tradition of Hasbro doing something because it’s worked before comes a G.I. Joe Resolute box set, which is similar to the 25th Anniversary sets that were responsible for me being addicted to G.I. Joe again.

gijoeresoluteboxset01

I’ll admit it, the figures look bad ass. Playing on the updated, yet familiar look first seen in the singled carded Resolute figures (of which I’ve seen only one stinking Duke in the store) this box set has a Cobra Commander, a B.A.T., two Cobra Troopers, and a Duke. Oh yeah, there’s also some bigger, spring loaded weapons in there that look like they are geared for the kid crowd.
