Lego Joker from the Dark Knight

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

Here are a couple of pictures of what is clearly a couple of Lego mini-figs that have been customized to look like the Heath Ledger Joker from The Dark Knight. You’ve got two flavors of the Joker so enjoy:

One is obviously the regular style of Dark Knight/Heath Ledger Joker and the other is the creepy nurse Heath Ledger Joker. Nicely played, Lego mini-fig maker guy.

Friday Roundy Uppy: Dinosaucers Should Be a Movie

dinosaucers

Item: Just to wrap things up, the contest winners of the Facebook/Comment contest have been notified. So sorry if you didn’t win, hopefully I can give out free stuff soon. Seriously, it’s like an addiction now. I just wish I had a constant flow of prize stuff, because you guys deserve it and there’s a lot of interest every time I run one.

Item: If any of my friends buy a chimp, I’m going to start packing heat.

Item: So why did WGN show Star Trek: The Next Generation practically all day the other day and now nothing the last couple of days? Why you have to tease the unemployed like that Chicago? At least I have Bill Kurtis to keep me company.

Item: EA is going to make a game based on G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. I wrote about the game on the ole’ gaming blog, but the short version is that I think it will most likely suck.

Item: One of my favorite blogs, Dave’s Long Box, died a year or so ago, but Dave is now back! He’s writing The Society for the Advancement of Dave now and it’s awesome. He seems to have a slightly broader range of subjects than just comics, but if you like this blog you should go check his out.

Item: I’m now roughly 12,000 zombies into my quest to get the kill 53,000 zombies or so Achievement in Left 4 Dead. If you want to help me in my quest, add my gamer tag “Tenric” to your friends list. If you do, please be sure to leave me a note letting me know who you are. I have a small brain and it’s often hard for me to match up who is who when their internet names don’t match their gamer tags.

Item: Good old Zach Oat, formerly of ToyFare fame, has written a “newbie’s guide to Watchmen.” It’s a great background guide if you plan on bringing anyone to the theater that knows nothing about the book and it’s plain enough for even your mom to understand. What? Why don’t you want to take your mom to Watchmen? She’s a nice lady! You really disappoint me sometimes.

The Lego Dropship with AT-OT Sauce

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

Wow, this set is something I’d never see from Lego as an official release. It’s the Lego Gunship/Dropship complete with a AT-OT Walker:

And Now For Something More Gay…

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009

I love Japan. It’s the home of almost anything cool or strange. Adding to that list (depending on your preferences) is the gayest action figure I’ve ever seen! He’s Billy Herrington who is described as a, “…bisexual former gay porn star.” That doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. Anyway, Billy comes complete with dumbbells, a shower stall, and sweat towel.

More hilariously “sexy” poses after the break. I apologize those reading this through the feed only. It’s set to full by the Blogging Overlords. Not my choice, for sure!

Dennis Quaid’s Big Ride

Monday, February 16th, 2009

More and more stuff is leaking out as the G.I. Joe live action movie tie-in toys are being spotted. This last week saw this poorly photographed image of the product offering from the line:

gijoemoviehasbropit

There’s pics of what we’ve seen already, the standard roleplay items, and the obligatory Mr. Potato Head as a Joe. The thing that interests me the most is the huge Pit play set. It doesn’t seem to be getting very much loving from the collecting community and I’m not sure why. Is it the shape? Is it because it’s from the movie and not the U.S.S. Flagg? Further images have surfaced since the 2009 Toy Fair has kicked off and they’ve lead to even more arguing back and forth.

He-Mans A-Go-Go

Monday, February 9th, 2009

Mattel’s new He-Mans, I mean Masters of the Universe, are going pretty strong. At the New York Comic Con they showed of several new figures that certainly got me excited.

Man-at-Arms

he-manmattelmanatarms

I’m really digging this Man-at-Arms, because they did the fans a service by including both his “cartoon” head and the head that came on the toy. Man-at-Arms is one of those toys that holds a special place for me, because he’s one of the first action figures I remember getting and he as certainly my first Masters of the Universe figure. In other words, I hope this guy will someday be mine.

Friday Roundy Uppy: Escape to Dino-Mountain

Friday, February 6th, 2009

dinosaurdude

It’s Friday and you know what that means! Time for more links and basically random thoughts!

Item: Mattel has a survey for toy collectors. I took it and I gave them a couple pieces of my mind about DC Infinite Heroes. What’s funny is that for the question asking you how many action figures you own, you can only enter a number up to 100. Seriously? Whoever designed the survey doesn’t really know toy collectors.

The Star Trek Movie Toys Are Still Ugly

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

I was checking out Raving Toy Maniac and I saw some pictures of Star Trek figures I hadn’t for some reason seen yet. First let’s watch some crazy extreme Star Trek action before we look at the crap:

I’m Completely Indifferent to Transformers

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

transformersmeh

I came to a horrible realization last night that I’ve tried to supress… I’m completely indifferent to Transformers figures. I’m both stunned and amazed that when I go into a toy aisle, I barely even give Transformers a second glance and I really don’t pay attention to Transformers news. For some reason this bothers me, not only because I run a toy blog where I must write about the toys and Transformers is a huge brand, but also as a person who wonders if I’m betraying my childhood self who had been obsessed with the Transforming ‘bots.

Battlestar Twopactica

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

Diamond Select has got a figure two pack coming out for Battlestar Galactica fans.

battlestargalacticadiamondselecttwopackkaraleoben

Battlestar Galactica is one messed up show. I used to love it, now I’m mostly compelled to watch it just so I know how the hell it ends. This Leoben and Starbuck two pack pretty much sums up everything I don’t like about the show. At first Leoben was a really great villain and then he just became an annoying and even more cryptic weirdo. The last time we saw these two together was on Earth and I think it went something like this:

Starbuck: “Oh my god, I have crazy visions and stuff and now it looks like I’m dead! WTF?!”

Leoben: “I’m freaking out!”

And then everyone moped around on the ship.

To Boldly Kind of Go

Saturday, January 24th, 2009

There’s been a lot of buzz about the upcoming lines of Star Trek toys, hell USA Today had a story on them. Freaking USA Today! Unfortunatly not all of the buzz is good. In fact, the stuff from Playmates has been getting slammed for looking not so hot:

startrekplaymatesfigures6inch

It was feared that Playmates wouldn’t have the experience to put out a product of the kind of caliber seen in other toy companies that are used to making toys for collectors with high standards. So far those fears look to be correct. The Terminator Salvation figures revealed by the company looked decent, but weren’t up to the current toy standards collectors expect and get from many other toy companies.

Friday Round-Up: The Out of a Rut Edition

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

dinosaur-printable-invitation

Hey kids, it’s Friday and that means some links from yours truly. Enjoy your free link entertainment and have a great weekend. For those of you still using the web, I plan on having more updates. I’m update crazy, watch out!

Item: Baby heads!

Item: Halo Points from the McFarlane Halo figures are finally redeemable. Just like I thought, you don’t get jack for one figure’s worth of points.

Item: Great White Snark posted a cake that I’d love to eat and wish was a real place.

Item: There’s a Star Wars rumor list out there that includes the Juggernaut/Turbo Tank on the vehicle list. Is another huge vehicle due this year?

Item: Poe Ghostal posted an item that reminded me of my childhood “play patterns” and how my imagination was affected by the cartoons of my youth. Good stuff.

Item: Big Bad Toy Store is having a winter clearance sale. Check it out if you have money!

Item: Just putting this out there, but if you want to submit something for posting here on ToyBender, send me an email. Your work can be seen by literally dozens of people. Seriously!

Item: While I enjoy watching The Clone Wars on Fridays, I’ve found that I’m really digging The Brave and the Bold. It’s mostly for kids, but there’s enough in there for a comic fan to enjoy. Anyone else digging the show as much as I am?

To Resist it is Useless. It is Useless to Resist It.

dcdirectresistanceactionfigures

I feel like I’m one of the five people that has played Resistance 2 for the PS3. Yeah, I know there’s more gamers out there that have played it, but compared to a game series like Halo or Gears of War it certainly doesn’t have the word of mouth or love that those games get. I happened to like it a lot. Sure there were things I didn’t like, so it really doesn’t rank among my beloved Halo, but I liked it nonetheless. Did I like it enough to want action figures based on it though? I’m not so sure.

A Tragic Week For Geeks

Sunday, January 18th, 2009

Not only was this week bad for me personally, but Geekdom in general lost some pretty big icons in a short period. The first is Ricardo Montalbán and if you haven’t heard this news you must have been living under a rock. I really can’t say a whole lot more than what hasn’t been said already so I’m just going to show three instances where Montalbán touched my geeky life:

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan

Of course I’m a hack that thinks that Wrath of Khan is the greatest Star Trek movie, so what? It rules.

toycollectinglosers.jpg

Now the following isn’t a cry for sympathy or anything like that, so please keep that in mind. What I’m about to go into is an issue that other collectors may face or may be facing in the near future due to the economy and that is the loss of a job. Recently I was given a 30 day notice at my place of employment. After processing the information and trying to plan for the future, I made a list of cut backs and things I can do in case I don’t find another job within that time frame. The first thing to go was collecting. I came up with two phases to my plan in regards to toys:
