Mail-away Weekend

Monday, November 17th, 2008

gijoe25thanniversarydoc.jpg

This last Friday I received a nice surprise in front of my door… my G.I. Joe Anniversary Operation: Rescue Doc mail-away Doc! I’m thankful that I live in an apartment complex where people don’t steal your mail that’s laying out. I’d rather not ever have to repeat the horror of my toys being stolen again.

eBay Madness: Grandma’s Star Wars Toys

Friday, October 24th, 2008

ebaymadnesssmall.jpg

While not gut busting hilarious, I found this auction funny in it’s banality. It answers the question, “What happens when Grandma finds some Star Wars figures that she thinks are worth something and decides to put them on eBay?” The answer is she charges a pretty high amount for a few figures that aren’t really worth it, but the real beauty here is the descriptions of the characters. It’s like it’s written through a translation device like Babelfish, like how this site is written.

Star Wars Battle in Lego Microscale

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

Man, I get a kick out of when micro-scale Lego building meets Star Wars. That’s why I went nuts when I saw this epic Star Wars battle all done with tiny, tiny Lego pieces:

There’s so many details that it’s hard to narrow down which ones are the best. Personally, I really dig the TIE Bombers dropping bombs on the capital ship.

This base even has an Imperial monorail! Evil public transportation! I love it!

You gotta love the X-Wing that’s about to blow.

To see all the shots of this spectacular work of art, head on over to roguebantha_1138’s Flickr account. Oh yeah, and if you dug this be sure to check out the Lego Imperial base done in micro-scale by the same fellow. That thing is dripping with sweet sauce.

How to Get the Stormtrooper “Commander”

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

If you wanted to get your grubby Cheetos stained hands on a racing stripe Strormtrooper (in some circles known as the Stormtrooper Commander), the details have finally emerged on where you can find him. When Star Wars: The Force Unleashed launches on midnight of September 15th, Gamestop will be selling him to those at the store. A priority will be given to those that have pre-ordered the game, so good luck getting your hands on one.

I’m a bit split on this guy. Stormtroopers are cool, but I don’t need him. I might have picked him up in stores, but seeing as how I’d have to jump through hopes to get the Commander I don’t think I’m ever going to own him now.

It’s also kind of funny to note that the Commander was first spotted in December of last year. Why did it take so long for him to be available for sale? Well, The Force Unleashed was very much leashed by several delays that screwed up the release schedule for all it’s tie-in products.

Toy Hunt: San Jose Toy Show Edition Part 2

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008

It’s time for part two of my toy haul from the San Jose Toy, Comic, and Record Show!

Star Wars Micro Collection Bespin Gantry - $12.00

This is one of those purchases that was totally spontaneous. When I was a kid my Dad bought me the companion piece to this rare-ish Star Wars toys wayyyy after they should have been in stores. It was flipping sweet. The only reason I got this one was that I picked it up and asked how much the dealer wanted for it. He said twenty bucks, which was out of my price range since it was at the tail end of my spending and I wasn’t that interested. I put the box down and the guy then tells me he’d take fifteen. I said I’d have to think about it and he suddenly offers it to me for twelve. This guy must have been desperate the way he talked himself down so quickly. I bought it at that moment, but man I wonder what he’d have offered if I would have turned that down. There was probably a free puppy that I missed out on. Damn it.

Shawn managed to get a huge deal from the guy with virtually no effort as well. I’m wondering if this dealer should rethink his line of work.

The Big Millennium Falcon for Thirty-Two Fiddy

Friday, September 5th, 2008

A recent forum posting has created a bit of a stir lately that I thought I’d share. On Hisstank.com, a prominent G.I. Joe toy message board, someone posted strong evidence that they bought three of the new big Hasbro Millennium Falcons on clearance for 32 dollars a piece.

Mark Boudreaux, My Hero

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

Boston.com recently wrote about a man that had more of an effect on my life than I’d ever guess. That man is Mark Boudreaux and he’s the coolest man in the world. Why? He’s been designing Star Wars toys since 1977. Not only did he have a hand in conceiving the classic Millennium Falcon, but he worked on the Slave 1 toy as well as designing the new kick ass big Millennium Falcon and AT-TE.

This muscled god of toy design (at least according to Google Image search and that thing is never wrong) was immortalized as an action figure. You might have seen it, it was the Endor Rebel soldier released a few years ago that many people confused as being based on Tom Green. I don’t think that’s enough. I’m ready to make a golden calf in his honor. That reminds me, ToyFare if you are listening here’s a candidate for your hall of fame!

The Big Millennium Falcon is Mine!

Tuesday, August 19th, 2008

Well kids, I finally did it. I broke down and bought the new big ass Millennium Falcon. It would be a crime to not share my faults with you, since A. It’s one of the most talked about and anticipated toy events of the last few years and B. any reader of this blog has contributed to the purchase by indirectly funding the thing. Thank you kindly, dear readers.

I knew it was big, but damn it’s friggen huge after it’s opened. It didn’t take long to get it assembled and even less time before I got all the stickers in place. As a side note, I really love putting stickers on toy vehicles. I wish it was a high paying gig, because I’m damn good at it.

SDCC ‘08: Star Wars Goodness Part 2

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

Thanks to Toy Bender’s official photographer Scott McEachen at San Diego Comic Con 2008 we’ll continue our look at the new toy goodness found at SDCC ‘08. This time I’ll turn my sexy gaze onto the rest of the Star Wars offerings:

Jodo Kast

sdccstarwarssmall03.jpg

If you can’t get enough Boba Fett repaints, this guy is obviously for you. The rest of the figure offerings in the cases really did nothing for me, however there were a couple of figures that I’ve only seen on Jedi Insider’s Hasbro presentation that are fairly noteworthy:
