TMNT Vinyl Figures

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

This is one of those posts where I again say that I don’t collect vinyl figures, but I do think a few select ones are cool blah blah blah blah. I don’t think it’s any wonder that these vinyl figures fall into my (more likely your) range of interests:

Ultra cute Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! Sweet. My wife’s reaction upon seeing them was, “Look at those babies!” I have to admit that I had the same feeling, but I kept it to myself so I could keep up my cool, manly exterior.

Anyway, the artist who created these might as well just hang themselves now or at least go into a secluded retirement away from creating any more vinyl figures, because they’ve reached the highest artistic peak that they’ll ever achieve.

A Real Life Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle

Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

When animals come into contact with radioactive material, the results usually aren’t so good. That’s why it takes kind of a leap of logic to accept that the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles wouldn’t look like hideous freaks. This statue (or action figure with old school McFarlane articulation) is an attempt to show how disgusting a Mutant Ninja Turtle might look like:

Yeah, that’s pretty friggen gross and certainly a far cry from the super cute versions of the turtles found in the original cartoons and action figures by Playmates.

By the way, is anyone here a big Ninja Turtle fan? I know that a lot of people are hot for the NECA figures, but are any of you buying the regular line of figures? I thought about buying Shedder’s daughter after seeing TMNT, then I didn’t. Yeah I know, great story.

NECA’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle

Monday, December 3rd, 2007

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles themed blog The 5th Turtle revealed an image this last week of NECA’s take on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

As you can see, Leonardo differs greatly from the Playmates Turtles that no doubt many of the readers of Toy Bender grew up with. That’s because he’s based on the original comic book appearance of the Turtles by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird that made them millionaires.

Reaction to this photo on the internets message boards seems to be extremely positive, so I’m going to go on an official unpopular stance by saying that while this is cool and all, Leonardo is a little more dumpy than I thought he’d be. I thought he’d be a little more streamlined like in this photo:

I can certainly understand why Playmates had changed the look of the Turtles way back in the day to make them more kid friendly. Don’t get me wrong, I like this Leonardo and NECA’s take is dead spot on to the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It’s just that this is one figure that really isn’t for me. My fiancee also just asked me if he was a cake, because he has the look of fondant. I couldn’t agree more and now I’m hungry for a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle cake.

Turtle Power!

Friday, October 20th, 2006

Well, here’s another quick post to try and satisfy your ravenous and insane desire for more toy coverage before my little trip. I know there’s at least one person that’s interested in Teenage Mutant Turtles that stops by Toy Bender, so I thought I’d put this tasty tidbit of toy news.
