Control Star Wars Space Battles? (Nerd Alert!)

I realize that this fits more into the realm of gaming, but I had to post this. This November will see the release of the Star Wars Miniatures Starship Battles game.
I think I’ll be at least trying this one out. Okay, who am I kidding? My nerd blood is boiling for this. You know those scenes in Battlestar Galactica where they move their little wooden ships around to plan their attacks against the Cylons? (Who makes those anyway?) I’m thinking that kind of planning and stratagy would be really fun if this game had it.
If the rules aren’t too complex and the sets aren’t insanely expensive, this might be the perfect Christmas gift for me (hint, hint). The only thing I wonder about a tabletop space battle is if it will represent 3d space combat at all or will be more along the lines of Star Trek battles on the TV tube. You know, two ships facing each other on the same plane, only seperated by about 100 feet.
Regardless, in the sample two ships given on the website there’s a Super Star Destroyer and a Mon Cal cruiser. Who’d want to be the Mon Cal? I could totally see whole fleets of Imperial ships with some X-wings mixed in when people get this.
I’ll have to convince at least one of my friends to try playing with this with me. Anyone up for a game? Please? Oh god, don’t make me beg.
Edit: Boy am I an idiot, I just realized why you’d want to be the Mon Cal fleet, you can pretend to be Admiral Ackbar and say things like, “It’s a trap!” and “Our cruisers can’t repel firepower of that magnitude!” in his awesome fishy voice. Try it right now. Wasn’t that fun?

We’ll all need to get sets and webcams and play it like Chess on Blade Runner. (I know another Blade Runner reference.)
Exactly. Who in there right mind would want to be anything but Imperial Star Destoyers? I mean the name alone implies that they destroy stars. I would like that power at my finger tips. I really want the Executor, DV’s Super Star Destoyer.(It destroys stars in a super way!)
Why is it that women with geek interest only exist on the internet. I have really begun to believe that their existence is equal to that of the Jack-a-lope. Really folks. Help me out here.

If it comes down to web cams and the game is good enough, I’ll do it.
I bet there is some rule that makes you want to play as the Rebels, like they get some sort of bonus or some such. Anyway, Imperial vs. Imperial battles would be freaky cool. There better be a way to use TIE fighters somehow.
My g/f has geek interests, but she’s not that geeky. I’ve never met a girl in r/l that would be super willing to play something like this, if there wasn’t a gift of shoes involved afterwards. Although, I have heard tell of such a creature.

Hey…gaming is my forte! We don’t take kindly to your kind toy boy… lol.
Very nice article, I am a Star Wars geek as well and I will take a look at this when it comes out (I even quoted star wars earlier today actually with Halo) lol.

Oh, I dunno. Throw in the Millenium Falcon and I could be persuaded to be the Mon Calamari. I mean, being the Imperial Star Destroyer means you have might on your side, but being Mon Calamari means you have to be a little more cunning.
Either way, the whole thing sounds great! I can really see whole tournaments being set up via web cam. Fantastic!

See, I thought I was safe because this is the table top kind of game. The kind of game that children and young adults shun these days. heh
I think Wizards of the Coast should send me a copy of this thing to review. I’ve already got a whole 3 people interested!

Actually two sets…..and webcams. Seriously.
Mon Calamari sounds like and order of fried squid rings. Mmmm….squidy.

Maybe we can have a Toy Bender tourney or something. I need to think about this in my meditation chamber.
“We can’t withstand a deep fryer of that magnatude!”
The best part of him (quoting my betrothed) is that he’s got the real fat person heavy breathing thing he does in between some lines, but its because he’s a fish.

[...] It seemed like there was a great interest from readers in the last update I did about the upcoming Wizards of the Coast Star Wars Starship Battles war game so here’s a link to their second preview of the game. (Be sure to tell them I sent you and they should send me a review copy of the game.) [...]
