Custom Star Wars Shelves
I’ve been thinking of ways to display figures factoring in my limited space considerations. I ran across a site called The New Sand Crawler Workshop.com where they make shelving units that serve as dioramas for Star Wars figures. It’s some neat stuff, considering it’s all made of wood.
If you search around the site a bit you’ll see some rather simple (but still cool looking) dioramas like this one that’s based on Empire Strikes Back:

The sets get more elaborate from there. Here’s an example of another Empire Strikes Back shelf that looks fantastic:

While the above sets were pretty cool, this next one blows them away by a factor of ten and I really wish that I had one. It’s a rack mount for TIE Fighters that’s both functional and a really cool diorama:

This thing is just packed with cool details. Notice the guy climbing the ladder in the background.

One of things I really enjoyed about this display is the big middle section that has all kinds of computer consoles.
For this set alone I’ve got to give The New Sand Crawler Workshop.com some recognition, Duran Duran style:

On a personal note, it’s both a funny and sad to think that I had access to a lot of wood working equipment when I was a kid, but never got into it because I didn’t want to make dumb night stands or other things that didn’t interest me in the least. Curse my feeble brain, I could have had the skills to make this stuff!

Wow. And I was patting myself on the back for having bought some cabinet organizers at Bed Bath and Beyond to serve as risers for my action figures…

I had glanced dismissively at the first photo, thinking it just showed some action figures standing on a generic $4.99 Wal-Mart shelf.
Then I saw Luke hanging upside-down from the “ice.” Good stuff.

I like when people make custom stuff.
