Danger Mouse in Lego. What Could Be Better?

by

Ahh there are some very simple things in life that bring me joy and this custom Danger Mouse Lego creation is one of them. The car by Louise Dade looks great and those mini-figures (made by Louise’s Mom of all people) look perfect as Danger Mouse and Penfold. I really wish this could be purchased in stores.

For those of you poor saps who don’t know who Danger Mouse is, let me enlighten you. Danger Mouse is a super spy mouse and star of his own titular cartoon. His partner was Penfold and he often faced off against villains like Baron Silas Greenback. The cartoon was British and I grew up watching it on Nickelodeon along with the other awesome show by the same people, Duckula.

Here’s the intro to Danger Mouse. Note the awesome theme song:

If you’re still interested, here’s a bit of the series itself:

One thing that I always liked about Danger Mouse was the art style. It was always a wee bit different than anything else seen on television. In fact, at times the show is really bizarre and kind of creepy. I don’t know how to explain it, but sometimes the series would verge on frightening for some reason back when I was a kid. Still, it wasn’t a bad thing. Danger Mouse occupies a special place in my heart. It’s a shame there aren’t any toys (or I haven’t ever seen any) for it.

I loved Danger Mouse as a kid. The fact that there were never any good DM toys is one of those things that occasionally haunts me in the wee hours, bringing a small tear to my eye.

And I agree it was sometimes creepy…I particularly remember an episode with a weird monster with a tubular snout that shot soap or something. The way it would appear out of nowhere and soapify DM or Penfold was actually rather scary (to a five-year-old, anyway).

I’ll wait for the Banana Man action set.

I also have fond memories of “Danger Mouse” and “Duckula.” I remember the day we got cable; I flipped through the channels right after it was installed, and stopped when I saw a cartoon. That cartoon was “Danger Mouse,” and it was the first show I watched on cable TV!
I used to always mis-hear Penfold’s name; for years, I referred to him as “Pinto.” I guess I liked the fact that there was a character on TV who was named after our family car at the time, haha.

    He’s totally awesome.
