DC Infinite Heroes
I guess it wouldn’t be any surprise to a regular reader of this blog to say I’m a total whore for the 3.75 inch scale. Hey, my most beloved toys from childhood are in that scale so it kind of makes sense. That’s why I’m pretty excited about Mattel’s new line shown at the ‘08 New York Toy Fair, DC Infinite Heroes. I really like the idea of the DC Universe line, but the six inch size and really limits how many of the figures I’m going to get. Aside from a few that would be my must buy characters (Power Girl, Dr. Fate) I have no real interest in a new variant of Batman. However, this DC Infinite Heroes line which clocks in at a petite 3.75″ inches looks fantastic. At that scale I can collect a whole slew of figures and not have to worry about limited shelf space or budget.
One of the coolest things about the line is the wide selection of figures shown at the 2008 Toy Fair. Not only do you get your power hitters like Batman, but you get lowly members of the Gotham City Police Department and Commissioner Gordon. What’s not to love about that?
Here’s my top wants for the line (thank you TNI for the pics):
Captain Marvel:

I love me some Captain Marvel. Did you know he used to outsell Superman in the comics department? He sure did, then at one point DC bought him. He’s been losing fights to Superman ever since. Coincidence? No.
Green Lantern

Hal Jordan is THE Green Lantern and he would look fantastic next to my Super Powers Green Lantern. And now is a good time to admit that I had the Super Powers Green Lantern marry the chick from Star Hawks when I was a kid. Remember that for your Toy Bender trivia challenge.
Power Girl

I don’t just like Power Girl because of her enormous breasts! Nope, I like her because I’m a big Supergirl fan and she’s basically Supergirl… with enormous breasts.
Supergirl

And here she is! Supergirl has got to be the most scantly clad sculpt ever for a 3.75″ inch figure. Jesus, you’d think it was Japanese or something out of a McFarlane line. Hopefully they’ll fix her butter face a bit and also her waist. Note to sculptors: Women don’t really look like this.

Yeah, unfortunately the Horsemen aren’t sculpting this line–they’ve already got too much on their plate. Still, the sculpts look pretty good for a 3.75″ line.
I doubt I’ll be collecting these, because I’m a whore for the 6″ scale these days and that’s about it. But they are pretty cool, and the character selection (what with Gordon and his cops) already looks fantastic.

Like you Paul, I too grew up 3.75″. I would love to start collecting Marvel/DC characters in this range, however looking at the pics, the limited articulation is a turn off for me. I guess I’m just used to SA by Hasbro, maybe Mattel can pick up a thing or two on this. Another thing is the limited details on them, the characters lack well, character imho. Think I’ll stick with my beloved SW and Joes for now.

Good point KLS, but I’m reserving judgment until I see the actual figs. These are prototypes so a lot can change. Although, I will say that super articulation doesn’t always work. Some of the figures I think would benefit it, but usually females will look like garbage the more joints you shove on them.

Is it just me or does Wonder Girl have bigger boobs than PG?
…
Power Girl, Dr. Fate: Did they confirm these guys for DC Universe Classics? Because I want those bad. Those are my favorite DC, non-batman related, characters and the only reason I pick up reprints of the All-Star Comics JSA stories.
Also, I’m totally getting the DCIH Power Girl.

“However, this DC Infinite Heroes line which clocks in at a petite 3.75″ inches looks fantastic.”
You mean that in a conceptual way, right? Since the actual line looks like ass? Ah, if only the Four Horsemen had time to work on EVERY toy line. Someone get cracking on that fast cloning technology.
I’d love Commissioner Gordon and an army of GCPD as much as the next nerd, but at this rate, I’d be better off going to Wal*Mart and buying a bunch of those awful “The Corps” knockoffs, because they have better sculpts than these ill-conceived, poorly sculpted lumps of congealed plastic disappointment.
Idea? Win. Execution? Fail.
“At that scale I can collect a whole slew of figures and not have to worry about limited shelf space or budget.”
Or articulation or looking decent.
“Hal Jordan is THE Green Lantern”
Except for all the other Green Lanterns. They really should have just left him dead…

I guess I’m not as picky when it comes to toys. Not only am I reserving final judgment until I see the final figures, but I’d be happy if they were basically the same as the Super Powers figures and at this point they pretty much are.
The other Green Lanterns? You mean the one that looks like a fish? Or the one that’s a big eye? Or the one with the Moe haircut? All the other Green Lanterns are lame compared to Hal. He’s the definitive Green Lantern, sorry.

Yo, you do realize your post has the same tone as the Comic Book Guy, right?

Well I really hope these are very raw protos. I fell in love Joes again because of the better articulation (Lady Jaye looks good) and excellent sculpt and details on almost the figs so far. I have carded series and also loose figs, they’re really great for diff poses for photoshoots and display purposes. And IF Mattel picks/follows this trend, then I’ll def be broke again at the end of every month.

I bitch and moan about the JL/JLU line all the time, but I still buy them. I got a whole box them in storage. But I’ve only opened Dr. Fate as they’ve never made a Power Girl. Articulation is okay, but they look nice. Same for DCIH except its the inverse, articulation is solid, and the look is okay.

Wow, Supergirl has the waist of a starving, 12-year-old Ethopian child.
If Ethiopians were white, that is.

Sorry, I just can’t give figures THIS bad a pass simply because of their good character selection. In a market in which both Hasbro (with two lines) and ToyBiz (with Superhero Showdown) showed how to make good, playable 3 3/4″ figures, Mattel is blatantly screwing up, and don’t deserve any slack until they show us something better than this.
“Infinite Heroes” isn’t a line that’s being pre-judged based on zero facts; it’s a line that sounds really cool until you see what they’re showing.
The other Green Lanterns? You mean the one that looks like a fish? Or the one that’s a big eye? Or the one with the Moe haircut?
I like the broccoli guy and the one that’s a giant diamond. Okay, not really. Face it: ALL the Green Lanterns are lame, up to and including Hal…

Just to check, I don’t follow Marvel line. Marvel Legends Showdown is in 3.75 inch also? Is the line still continuing?
March 11th, 2008 at 12:33 am
Yes, it was, but no, it’s not.
Well, more or less. They’re probably closer to 4″ than 3.75″, but you get the idea. And they’re one of the lines that Hasbro didn’t continue…
