Dune Lego and Other Lynchian Goodness

by Paul

I’m a big fan of Dune. I’m not just a little fan. I’ve got a huge veiny nerd-on for Dune. Not the book, but the David Lynch mega bomb of the nineteen eighties featuring both Kyle MacLachlan in one of his greatest roles (although it is hard to beat Agent Cooper from Twin Peaks) and an almost nude Sting. If you only ever see one movie with a nearly nude Sting, make it David Lynch’s Dune. Don’t forget other mega stars like Max von Sydow and the preeminent British actor, Captain Picard. But I could go on all day, I love that damn movie too much. That’s why I love this little Lego custom:

Of course, this was probably inspired by the books (or the 2000 Sci-Fi Channel remake) and not the movie because the mini-figs aren’t wearing the stillsuits from the Lynch movie, but damn it all I can pretend.

And speaking of Twin Peaks, the maker of this set, Rocko, also recreated the infamous dream sequence from Twin Peaks:

Dance creepy backwards talking midget mini-fig, dance!

You can compare the set to the actual scene above. You’ll find that it is strikingly accurate. If the YouTube masters have taken it down buy the DVDs, you’ll be doing yourself a favor.

I’m seriously in love with Rocko for these creations. For his fantastic Lego sets I’m going to bust out a new honor courtesy of singer Rick Astley!

Somehow I’ve never seen either of the Dune movies!! Maybe I should be putting them in my Netflix Queue.

  2. Keith Says:

I love the old Dune movie and the books. I just don’t pretend that they are the same thing.

  3. Esbat Says:

I want to be Duncan Idaho when I grow up.

  4. Paul Says:

XeQUae, get on that double time!

Keith, that’s what I do for the new Star Wars movies.

Esbat, I thought he was pretty cool in the film but it sucks he gets killed so early.

  5. Great White Snark Says:

Ok, that Lego custom is cool as hell. If I tried to create a sand dune with Legos, it’d probably end up looking more like a pointy, khaki-colored boulder.
