Easy-Bake Easy-Danger! Hasbro Recalls Easy Bake Ovens

Hasbro has recalled about 985,000 EZ-Bake Ovens for repair due to some children getting burned. From the Consumer Product Safety Commission:

Hazard: Young children can insert their hands into the oven’s opening and get their hands or fingers caught, posing an entrapment and burn hazard.

Ouch! Not only is this an immediate threat just think about what kind of effect this might have in the future for home baked tasty treats. Millions of adults may be too afraid to make a Hello Kitty cupcake because of the shear psychological trauma inflicted from their Easy Bake Oven. This is a problem that could lead up to a national crisis within a decade.

If you own one of these ovens what should you do? Throw your hands up in the air and scream at the top of your lungs? No. The solution is:

Consumers should contact Easy-Bake between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. ET 7 days a week to receive a free retrofit kit with consumer warning at (800) 601-8418. Caregivers should keep the Easy Bake Oven away from children under eight years of age.

Notice, it does not say to file a lawsuit.

Also keep a look out for your local news station to now advertise their broadcasts with phrases like, “A toy in your home can kill your child. Tune in at six to find out which one!” Well now you know without the stupid tease, and knowing is half the battle. The other half is traumatizing burns.

This is taking me back to the sadness of my childhood. Never got a Sit-n-Spin or an Easy-Bake Oven…

At least you never burned yourself! You gotta look at the silver lining!

  3. Polly Says:

I remember being just a little afraid when using my Easy Bake oven as a child. It’s called an “oven!” The oven gets hot! But really, back in my day the little 60 watt bulb cooked a brownie in like a day and a half. I was sorry to hear about the recall, though.

  4. Jennifer Says:

LOL at the day and a half to cook a brownie! I just assumed everyone ate it half raw like I did!

  5. BB Says:

I actually endorse the burning of small children’s hands. They will be taught a very valuable lesson about not playing with fire, each and every time they look at the stump where their hand used to be.
“Happy Birthday Lisa… here’s a hook for that stump. Now repeat after me…arggggh”
