eBay Madness: Pimp Daddy Destro
Here’s an auction that fits the very definition of the title, “eBay Madness”. It’s for an ultra-rare, original Pimp Daddy Destro figure going for 20,000 dollars.
If you aren’t familiar with Pimp Daddy Destro, he’s a figure that was released in limited quantiles as sort of a joke. Because of the low numbers of figures produced, the oddness attached to the figure, and it’s nearly legendary status in the G.I. Joe collecting world he’s one of the most desirable and highly sought after Joe figures. Regardless, even though he’s one of the rarest G.I. Joe figures, it’s debatable if a Pimp Daddy Destro is “worth” this much in the first place as they usually go for a couple grand. My guess that this one is priced so high because it’s AFI certified at a 90. This is all well and good and an AFI certification might mean a lot to some people willing to fork over the cash for a figure forever sealed away in a plastic box, but to me it shouldn’t add about 17,000 bucks to the price tag. To be fair, it’s a Buy it Now price, but I never understood setting a Buy it Now at a nearly unobtainable price. So far 14 offers have been made and they’ve all been turned down, so I’m guessing the seller is really holding out some high hopes for the figure.
Anyway, who in their right mind would drop 20,000 grand or even a couple of hundred of dollars for an action figure on eBay? Even if you had the kind of cash to drop on this thing, wouldn’t you like to see what you’re buying in person if you’re paying this much for something? I realize that there are rich collectors who would think 20,000 dollars seems reasonable, but common sense would dictate to me that I’d at least like to see the thing in person.
From the auction:
Here is your chance to get a one of a kind, rare GI Joe action figure. The original PIMP DADDY DESTRO. It doesn’t get much rarer than this. AFA 90 PIMP DADDY DESTRO with a Certificate of Authenticity (COA). Two surefire, proven ways to know that you are getting a bonafide, authentic figure.
All legitimate best offers are welcomed.

Thank You
I don’t trust anything that has the phrase, “bona fide” in it, much less seeing it misspelled as one word. I can’t even read the term without hearing some redneck’s voice from the darkest regions of my nightmares. If you’re buying Elvis memorabilia and you live in Arkansas, I’m sure that “bona fide” would come up in the transaction at some point, but it’s not a word I’d want anywhere near my 20,000 (or a bit less) dollar toy.

In all fairness, he’s not only rare, but sexy, too.

I love using the “Best Offer” feature - I offered him $20 for PDD.
No word yet on whether he’s going to accept…
