G.I. Joe 25: Wave 5
I realize that not everyone is into G.I. Joes as much as I am right now so I must apologize for all the G.I. Joe updates. Not a week goes by now where there isn’t some news about the 25th line that I feel compelled to cover. This week was no different with the catch up work I’ve had to do so far. If you haven’t seen Wave 5 yet, there are some great figures in this assortment.
Crimson Guard

When you want only the best Cobra trooper to get shot by G.I. Joe, then you call in the Crimson Guard. If they release a new Tomax and Xamot, you’re going to need at least fifty of these dudes.
Iron Grenadier Destro

When Destro started getting into having his own army thang a bit more in the toys he took on this form. Bonus points to Hasbro for releasing him with a real metallic gold head. Now how many loose silver headed Pimp Daddy Destro’s will have a head swap done?
Commando Snake Eyes

This wave brings another release of a figure that had been exclusively available to the 25th Anniversary Joe five pack. I’ve never been that hot on this version of Snake-Eyes, but he’s got some classic, killer card art and that’s one hell of an incentive to pick him up.
Snow Job

Snow Job is a fine addition to the Joe team, however I always thought his name was a little too close to “blow job” for my tastes. That’s like having a figure named Captain Rock Face or Agent Blue Ralls.

“Rock Face?” That was the best you could come up with? I’ll pretend that instead you said Captain Dean Throat.
Or for one you have to really think about, “Horatio Fell.” Huh? Yeah.
Here’s a linguistic fun fact: “blow job” originally meant the same thing as “snow job” - to trick someone with a complicated lie or coverup. I don’t know what sort of semantic drift led to it meaning “the greatest invention of all time”…

As with all the other GI Joe waves, I’ve yet to find any of them in any store. They must be really popular and selling quickly, or perhaps they’re not producing many. I just want to see them displayed prominently on a store rack, gleaming in all their grandeur.
Finding them online isn’t as much fun and on eBay they’re overpriced.

Well, I think only wave 3 is in stores now, but yeah Savage, you are right they are really hard to find.
yo go re, nice work.

You’re not too far off, Paul… “snow job” is actually a colloquialism for a special move after oral pleasure.

Oh what have I wrought!

[...] or Snake Eyes (hah) then there will be more in stores for you. You might be wondering why on Earth Snake Eyes is included in this wave. A reader named Rick asked me this and my answer is that it is becoming [...]

Hey, I’ve been coming to your website more and more to read up and somehow my love for g.i. joes have reignited.
I went scouring through old boxes for my old joes, thought of selling them off but now thought better of it. Such sentimental value for me, not only am I keeping them but I’m sold on getting the new waves, but trying to be selective aiming for the cobras. But that too seems a daunting task, cos from where I’m from, (Singapore) our TRUs have stopped taking in joes since a decade ago. It’s really sad. Thus I have to look online to get them. That too, it seems most sites are selling the wave as packaged forcing me to buy them all which I just can’t afford with all the waves that I’ve already missed.
Simply, ontop of my SW clone collecting, I have to play catchup on the cobras now. Do you have any recommendations for me to get MOMC cobras online apart from EE and bigbadtoystore?
Times like these I wished I was in the US.
ps: Wave 5 crimson guard and snake eyes are too sweet to pass over, I so want them!

I’ve ordered from SmallJoes.com and it was a good experience. I’m not that in on what’s good for overseas orders though..
Thanks for visiting and I hope you keep coming back!

Thanks Paul, last question, hows the condition upon arrival, do they take precautions in maintaining case freshness (c9)?
I have an uncle in the US, so it won’t be an issue.

I honestly don’t know. Just send them an email asking and I’m sure they would be happy to help you!

Argh, I can’t even find the first wave in my country. All I found was a few Valor vs. Venom Sgt. Stalkers and a whole lot of Baronesses on a clearance sale. “sigh”
Anyways, I love the Crimson Guard, reminds me of those Royal Guards from Star Wars.
