G.I. Joe 25th Anniversary: First Images of Wave 7
Hasbro released some images of the newly announced Wave 7 of 25th Anniversary figures and I’ve got them here for review. Hold on to your butts, this is going to be a mild ride.
Duke with Jet Pack
This Duke matches the red white and blue that once coursed through John Wayne’s blood. Just looking at this fills me with capitalistic patriotism of untold of levels. That being said, I’m not going to buy it, unless to us use the flag pole to hoist up a Cobra flag on it.
Wild Bill
Wild Bill always annoyed the hell out of me on the ‘toon, but I got to give him props for his mad helicopter piloting skills. Will this one fit into the good old Locust? Let’s hope so.
Snake Eyes V4
I have a feeling that by next week every single Snake Eyes version will be scheduled for release. This is about the last version in the original series that looked pretty cool. The next one out was that awful blue version. Gah, what were they thinking?
Spirit Iron-Knife
Sure he’s the purest form of an Indian stereotype, but damn it all he comes with an eagle. I can’t wait until Luigi the pizza tossing, mustachioed Italian Joe comes out.
H.I.S.S. Driver
Now I see Hasbro’s plan. This is the other H.I.S.S. driver. Good play, Hasbro.
Cobra Viper
What the fug is wrong with this Viper? There’s something just wrong about his helmet and his wrists are at bizarre angles. I’m hoping this is fixed before release, or there’s going to be ton of pissed off Joe fans.
You might be asking yourself where the heck is Major Blood that was announced along with this wave. Well, he got pulled until next the wave. I guess he wasn’t up to par so they’ve decided to hold off on him for a bit. Perhaps they could fix up the Viper a bit while they’re at it?

Man, Hasbro is cranking these things out, aren’t they? I envy Joe fans their wonderful revamp…I wish MOTU had been so successful.
Still, I do wish Hasbro would give a 6″ Star Wars line a shot.

Hmm what’s wrong with the Viper’s helmet? I agree the wrist looks weird from that angle. But there’s better painted detail on the vest than older vers.

“I wish MOTU had been so successful.”
Yes, apparently the ultra-top-secret to making your revamp a success, the one no one told Mattel about, is PUTTING YOUR TOYS IN STORES. Oh, if only they’d KNOWN!
I wonder if perhaps the Viper’s helmet is removeable? It seems to be pushed down too far on his head - other than that, I don’t see anything wrong with it. The wrists seem angled to help him hold his rifle in both hands - kind of like Roadblock - so I’m okay with that. He’ll look fine once he’s not splayed out to the side anymore…

KLS, it just looks… weird to me.

Yo go re: The MOTU revamp line was in stores. All of them. I saw Wal-Marts, Targets and Toys ‘R Us’ with half an aisle dedicated to MOTU. If memory serves, it wasn’t until after Mattel canned the line and the balls-awesome cartoon that the figure-sized statues were created and only made available in specialty stores.
That said, The Viper helmet looks fine to me. His wrists are odd though, unless they are articulated or Hasbro is getting him ready for driving a 25th Anniversary Cobra Ferret.

I think Yo meant that the you couldn’t find the good ones in all the mess of redecos of He-man and Skeletor?
January 24th, 2008 at 2:22 pm
bingo. See, Mattel killed the line by not actually releasing the figures anybody wanted, thus “not putting them in stores.”
If you hang around a bit, I’ll be happy to tell some knock-knock jokes, and Paul can explain them to you…
January 24th, 2008 at 7:30 pm
Wow Yo, that sounds condescending. Unless you mean you tell knock knock jokes that involve such things as string theory and 18th century French poetry.
January 24th, 2008 at 10:49 pm
Well how silly of me to have assumed that you meant what you wrote in a comment. Next time I’ll be sure to search for the real meaning of your comments.
Or maybe you just should have said “Mattel killed the line by not actually releasing the figures anybody wanted” in the first place because that is totally different than saying that Mattel didn’t putting figures in stores.

Now that we’ve all had the chance for our rebuttals, let’s all just take a breath and think about things that make us happy, like unicorns having sex with mermaids… okay?

I like the three-section staff that Snake Eyes has, but the butterfly knives just look weird strapped to his chest like that.

[...] Blood’s face is most likely covered because they pulled him from Wave 7 for Wave 8 and this is a pretty damn good indication it’s because his face sculpt bit. [...]

im pretty sure the vipers wrists are kicked back like that so when hes holding his rifle with BOTH hands it looks more natural

and I personally own 30 vintage vipers , im a big fan of them and IMO the new helmet looks awesome.
