G.I. Joe Movie, it’s on!

While movie reporting isn’t what I normally do here, the news that had been knocking about the internets for the last few weeks is that the live action G.I. Joe film has been given the official green light with Stephen Sommers behind the helm. Sommers is the guy that was responsible for most of the Mummy films and… Van Helsing. Man, I can’t think about that movie without throwing up a little.
Anyway, if anything big happens with the film I’ll mention it here. I’m not going to start posting rumors and I’m going to try to refrain from freaking out about how bad G.I. Joe might turn out to be. I learned my lessons from Transformers on that one, meaning we all thought the sky was falling and most movie goers (and nerds) were at least partially satisfied, if not completely satisfied, with the results. Now if Chris Tucker is cast as Funny Black GuyTM, then it’s time to start panicking.

What the hell? I thought Van Helsing was a really fun movie. It might be my most re-watched DVD in my collection.

What can I say, one’s man horrible, horrible movie is another man’s Casablanca. I can’t stand The Rock, but I have friends who love it. I can’t explain it. Anyway, if you want to know EXACTLY why I dislike Van Helsing, I wrote this review a long time ago which sums up my feelings: http://www.digitalmonkeybox.com/van_helsing.htm

Van Helsing is a 2am, nothing else is on flick. The Mummy movies were pretty good. I’m just amazed that the Monk from Van helsing was also the one eyed, narrating Spartan in 300 and Faramir in LOTR. Might as well cast him as Duke.
I vote for Paul as Stormshadow.

Huzzah! The King returns! All Hail Keith!
Yeah, maybe “makes me puke” is a little harsh, but it was really disappointing in the long run.
Yes, I vote for myself as Stormshadow, except for the fact I’m not Asian and I know 0 martial arts and am out of shape, I’d be perfect for the role.

I saw Van Helsing at the movies…it wasn’t terrible, but I just couldn’t get over how bad the actor was who played Dracula….he just didn’t capture the role of him well.

I haven’t been overly impressed with any of Sommers’ movie thus far, but hopefully he can pull this one off.

Van Helsing is not that bad. The fight between Van Helsing (when he turns into a werewolf) and Dracula was pretty cool stuff.

Many fans are gnashing their teeth because the current plan is to de-emphasize the uber-patriotic feel by making Joe a global organization. Myself, I feel that the characters have always been so eccentric that it makes sense for the group to be something other than strictly military. I like to envision it as a cross between traditional military and something like Warren Ellis’ Global Frequency…

If there is Cobra, explosions, and Snake Eyes I should be fine. Yes, I’ll live without Storm Shadow, but he better be in the sequel. I’ve never read Frequency Monte, but I assume it’s good?
And I didn’t realize that Van Helsing was such a popular topic. From now on it’s Van Helsing all the time.

Stephen Sommers is the kiss of death for this movie. I look forward to catching its late, late, late night edited showing on the UPN five years from now.
On the other hand, Paul, this is indeed a great opportunity to break out the Storm Shadow costume.

I have high yet reserved hopes.
