G.I. Joe Movie Updates: The Good Quaid and Dr. Who!

The world of toys has been pretty hopping lately, so I haven’t been able to cover all the news stories that I’ve wanted to like the progress being made in the live action G.I. Joe film’s casting process. Well here’s a bit of a catch up.
In the past week or so, the film got a little acting cred with the addition of Dennis Quaid as General Hawk. I really like Quaid and I think he’s a pretty good match. (As a side note, I’m thanking Krom they didn’t hire Randi Quaid.) He recently spoke to Access Hollywood about the film and described it as a, “big popcorn action movie” which is okay with me. I’m not expecting much from a G.I. Joe movie except to not suck and to be fun.
He also recently talked to MTV in a video you can view here:
Wow, whoever did the interview on this one royally sucks. Talk about having no rapport with the guest. Anyone disappointed by the Joes or Cobra members not present in the film? I love Tomax and Xamot, but I can live without them.
Perhaps more exciting than the addition of a seasoned actor to the cast was the announcement that they guy who was to play Destro, David Murray, had to drop out and Chris Eccleston got the part. Heroes fans will recognize him as Claude, while I know him best as one of the versions of Dr. Who. In fact, Mr. Eccleston was my favorite Dr. Who so far. Now my Dr. Who, G.I. Joe slash fiction is one step closer to reality.
Plugs:
If you want to keep up to date on the rest of the Joe news, I’d recommend you head on over to The Braxcave, which is run by a fellow Wizard Universe forum member Umbrax. He’s got his own G.I. Joe movie section here.
And if you like Dr. Who, be sure to check out Watching Dr. Who, which seriously lacks any kind of Dr. Who slash fiction.

Our GIJoe Movie Watch logo (and name, obviously) was entirely inspired by your Star Wars Clone Watch.
Did you see the picture of Dennis Quaid as Hawk?
