I’m Completely Indifferent to Transformers

I came to a horrible realization last night that I’ve tried to supress… I’m completely indifferent to Transformers figures. I’m both stunned and amazed that when I go into a toy aisle, I barely even give Transformers a second glance and I really don’t pay attention to Transformers news. For some reason this bothers me, not only because I run a toy blog where I must write about the toys and Transformers is a huge brand, but also as a person who wonders if I’m betraying my childhood self who had been obsessed with the Transforming ‘bots.
I think I can narrow it down to a couple of things. I liked the Transformers I had growing up and new ones really don’t do it for me. Unless it’s an almost exact replica of something I liked back then, like a remake or a Masterpiece figure, then I don’t care. The strange thing is that while I feel a stronger connection to G.I. Joes that were around when I was a kid, I’m still open to brand new ones. I have no idea why my brain will accept one kind of “newness” and not another.
The other reason I’m not that big into a lot of Transformers merchandise is that I didn’t really care for the movie versions of the ‘bots, so I have zero interest in any toy version based upon that look. They don’t really look like “Transformers” to me and with another film coming up, I have the feeling that I’ll again care even less about the line.
I’m curious to find out if I have a lot of Transfomers fans reading this blog or not. I’m I missing out for not having more Transformers news? Let me know how you feel about the ‘bots, love them or hate them.

Yeah, the new ones are Retardobots. I don’t blame you. Old school, all the way.

I’m not really too into any of the new Transformers, except the Masterpiece figures. I have getting my son some Transformers Animated figures though, and they are kind of cool.

I’m quite into Transformers but I hate them as much as I love them.
Can’t get into the movie shit though. Made the mistake of buying some of them and wish I hadn’t.
I learned my lesson.

Transformers was (and still is) my shit. I have a deep deep love for TFTM (1986) and enjoy His Bayness’ take on the franchise.
I’ll admit, I bought ALL of the Autobots from the movie. Lined them up, rolled them out … it was great fun to finally have a modern interpretation.
That being said, I understand why people are against the movie style. However my most favorite in my collection is my 20th Anniversary Master Piece Optimus Prime … absolutely full of win.

I bought into the hype of the 07 movie, but this year I’m not planning on touching any movie figures. The Classics aka Universe figures are great, and the Animated figures are gold!

I still haven’t seen their latest movie (nor stepped into a Wal-Mart) and that makes me proud. I like Joes more than TFs.

old school and animated are the best. the newer ones from the movie are just too hard to transform.

I feel the same way.
I still like the TF movie, but I’m not so inclined to collect the new movie toys, although I do collect the TF Encore/Reissue and Masterpieces.
I also am a bigger Joe collector, compared to when I was a kid.

I’m a fan of most everything G1 - minus the sharkicons and other trippy movie stuff. Masterpiece Prime and Megatron are the crown jewels of my Transformers collection. I’ll figure out a way at some point to afford the Grimlock.
As for the movie, I went in with zero expectations and enjoyed it thoroughly. Not as an homage to G1 but rather as modern day summer movie fun. Saw it twice and bought the dvd.
Now when are you going to start covering Robotech?

Like many of the 80s kids its hard to beat the nostalgia value of the originals, but to be honest, while the movie line contained some very poorly conceived bots (megatron much?), so did the G1 line (ratchet/ironhide with their sticker faces?)….I’m all about new molds and approaches even when the base concept seems so far off base (TFA = meh, but TFA Ultra Magnus = oh yeah!).
As for covering bots….many sites do it, but yes, if you want our bot fan lovin, you best bring the noise.

Yeah the new TF’s are pretty dumb. Universe is pretty cool but not worth the money in my opinion… And I got animated Shockwave but that’s probably the end of my TF buying for a long time.

Those naysayers of the Universe and Movie TF figures are hobosexuals. There I said it.

I’ve been all about Transformers for the last couple of years, but this price hike has stunned me into indifference. I was totally excited to finally see the latest wave of Animated figures at Wal-Mart today — and then I saw the new $12.99 price tag and couldn’t put that Swindle down fast enough.
For fun, relatively inexpensive toys, right now I’m thinking go go Power Rangers.

Outside of the Animated line stuff and the G1 homages & reissues, I’m fairly meh about most TF stuff these days. I’ve been collecting them pretty much exclusively for a few years now, but I’ve definitely started to slow down.
Especially with all the insane bad-assness this coming out of Japan these days.

The Transformers toys we get today are the best they’ve ever been. Movie, Classics, Animated… they stomp all over G1 stuff. Yes, there are some real clunkers, but for the most part, the toys are good fun, and a good value. Excellent design, excellent engineering, complete poseability… is there any toyline out there that COULDN’T take a lesson from TFs?
