Mail-away Weekend

by Paul

This last Friday I received a nice surprise in front of my door… my G.I. Joe Anniversary Operation: Rescue Doc mail-away Doc! I’m thankful that I live in an apartment complex where people don’t steal your mail that’s laying out. I’d rather not ever have to repeat the horror of my toys being stolen again.

What’s odd is that Doc is the first 25th Anniversary silver foil version (he’s got a #2 on his gun for whatever that’s worth) and not the newer, fixed arms version. I had expected that I’d be getting the newer version since I sent my points away so late, but whatever. The thing that bothers me and makes me look like a troll-like uber nerd is that near the “o” in G.I. Joe, there’s some stress marks on the card. I open roughly 80% of my Joes now, but Doc I wanted to keep in the package. Gah.

Even more bizarre is the fact that on Saturday I got a knock on the door from a Mailwoman who had my Captain Rex figure. I’d figured that I was never going to receive my Rex since I had ordered him so long ago and my check had been cashed for months. In fact, my wife got to hear all kinds of bitching about it on Friday night. Come Saturday, all was right with the world and I had both my mail-away figures. What a wonderful, wonderful world.

Now I’m hoping they’ll do another mail-away figure one of these days. They’re fun, if a little frustrating.

Go ahead and open Doc up…you’ll be happy with it. It is indeed a sweet figure that is worth the mail-away pain in the ass.

BTW…I always get my mail-away figures sent to my Mom’s address. The joking I have to take from her (”A TOY? My 30 year old son with 3 degrees, buying TOYS?!”) is worth knowing that in her cozy little neighborhood, nobody’s stealing anything.

I got mine today too, and it was the foil/ 2 gun. Here’s my favorite part of this comment: The card is absolutely flawless, and I’m a open that sumabitch! hee hee!
    …and LBAM, 3 degrees…? Amateur!

  3. Esbat Says:

Dude the sucky mailman from my old apartment complex would tear open the plastic wrappers on my magazines and comics and read them and say they came that way. Only reason I knew it was him was because his parents owned the corner convenice store and he’d stop there for lunch and I found him opening up my issues of Batman and Robin for that month. He had opened Batman and was tearing into robin when I got there.

Anyways, the same dude poked/tore a BIG F**Kin’ hole in my mail away George Lucas Store trooper packaging to check it out.

  4. Sam Says:

    Hey Esbat,
You should report him. Tampering with mail is a federal offense. Sic the FBI, CIA, Secret Service, NSA, INS, and whatever other government agency you can think of on him.

i’m crying here. mine still hasn’t arrived. Hasbro hates me..

  6. jumper11 Says:

Yes, yes they do. They won’t even call you up drunk to get you to buy action figures, thats how much.

  7. hrdwrkngXsoldier Says:

I still haven’t recieved mine yet either, should I also be hoping to get the newest variant? If I do get it, should I open it. (i open about 95% of my joes) or should I hord it and try to get a trade that includes another variant of doc?

  8. Paul Says:

soldier… I have no idea. I’d hang on to him a bit on the card and then decide a bit later if you’d want to open him or not. That’s just me though.
