McFarlane at SDCC: Halo Time
Millionaire collector of fantastic balls and nerd dream maker, Todd McFarlane had one fine showing at the 2007 San Diego Comic-Con. While the McFarlane Toys booth might not have been the flashiest, the display cases brought plenty of Teh Awesome to the show.
First off, let me please my core audience (basically myself) and show off what Todd had to offer in the way of Halo toys. Here’s a prototype of Master Chief himself:

Damn, it looks nice. Even unpainted, that figure is ready to rock balls Pantera never dreamed of rocking. I can’t wait to see the fully painted version in my hands.
The prototype Warthog was also on display and it looks even better in real life than any picture could convey. The detail is practically stunning.

Lower down in the case it was full of dozens of small Master Chiefs. They were like ants around the Halo 3 themed McFarlane X-Box controllers.

In addition to the cool prototypes, there were a couple of prototype packages for Halo fans that can’t wait to see what they look like in stores:

Wow, I’m wiped out from all that awesome in one small post. I’m going to need a nap. However, if you’re looking for more Halo toy news, McFarlane’s website recently put out a list of all their upcoming licensed toys. This list included wave two of both the vehicles and the figures:
Halo Series 2 (due in stores June 2008)
Through the fog of war, one man stands as the last hope for victory against the might of the Covenant legions.* Master Chief (blue paint variant)
* Brute Stalker
* ODST
* Drone
* Arbiter
* Master Chief (brown)
* Spartan SoldierHalo Series 2 vehicles (due in stores June 2008)
Halo vehicles re-created in die-cast metal.* Scarab
* Wraith
* Mongoose
I, for one, cannot wait to see McFarlane’s version of the ODST trooper. I think it’s safe to say that while JoyRide Studios did a good job for being a small toy company, McFarlane’s offerings even at this early stage are kicking the ass of anything that JoyRide ever made.
* A few of these images were provided by Shawn, namely the prototype packages. Rock on Shawn.

Kick ass! Thanks Paul! These toys look absolutely fantastic. My only worry seeing the future list of toys is all the color variants on master chief…I hope they are kept under control. That and with the fact that you can now customize your armor and helmet with completely different designs makes me wonder what their going to do with that.
I would be pretty sweet if McFarlane ran a “Make your own spartan” figure for a decent prize where you can customize the toy based on Bungie’s armor varients. May prove to be expensive though.
Looks like I’m going to have to get another display case from Ikea….my current one is full.

Thanks for the coverage man!

Those figures are looking great. Can’t wait to see them fully painted.
Undead Logic: That is a nice looking case. Do you know how much weight the shelves can hold. I’d like to get something like that for my LOTR statues…

Here’s the link for the actual shelf http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10011055
It says it can hold about 6kg which converts to about 13 pounds.
Its a great shelf, I’m going to be looking into getting lights for them soon…
