One Mind Blowingly Insane Toy Collection

I rarely ever point at a fellow collector and laugh, criticize, or otherwise look upon them negatively. That’s why I’m going to host a few videos here without judgment… Okay, I can’t do it. I tried for a minute there but I couldn’t get past the first draft of this post. There is no way I can be impartial in this matter and respect myself as an opinionated blogger blogician, so if I hurt any feelings I apologize ahead of time.
The following videos were made by a fellow I’ve alluded to before in my post “Collecting: When is it Too Much?“. I’m sure he’s a nice person, but the sheer size of the collection and the fact that it’s all over the internet makes it impossible to ignore without comment. If he didn’t want the world seeing his stuff and talking about it, he’d never have joined every forum in existence with the intent on posting images of his collection for everyone to see, much less putting videos of his collection on YouTube.
That was just Cobra. JUST COBRA. So as you can see he owns a lot of toys. There’s nothing really wrong with this in itself. After all, I’ve argued that if you have the means to collect such a massive amount of anything then who are we to judge what one person does in their home as long as they lead a healthy life in other respects?
I completely understand wanting to share your collection with others, but there’s just something fishy about this. It seems like he’s a little over eager to show it off. For example, if I start a website devoted my collection and people see it that’s one thing. If I go out of my way to spread pics of my collection wherever I could, that’s another. Who knows, maybe I’m just jealous:
No, probably not. For me, this is way too much. This is just another form of masturbation, albeit one that isn’t half as fun and 105% more costly. Yeah, I do like looking at these pictures, but I could never own this many toys even if I could afford it. I like other things too much to invest that much time and money into obtaining such a massive collection. For the collector in question however, there doesn’t seem to be a point where it’s too much. Like I’ve said before, if you can have this much stuff and lead a normal life then more power too you. If this collection is some sort of unhealthy addiction or a psychological crutch then you’re just a loser. It’s a very thin, socially awkward line that all collectors must ride.
UPDATE: The YouTube videos have been removed because the user couldn’t handle a mild amount of criticism.

Is there perhaps a 12-step program for that sort of thing?

Dude is nutter-butter. The gravity of his introduction suggested he had discovered the cure for cancer or something.
“Hi. My name is Eric Fernandez. I’ll get right down to it. I… truly believe… I have solved the issue of poverty in third world nations.”

Holy S**T that is a lot of troopers!!

That collection isn’t impressive, it’s sad. And does anyone else get the feeling that the person running the camera in the introduction video was his mom?

Clearly he is a sick man, and for his own good, his collections should be dismantled and given to me.
Seriously, though, yeah, he might be a bit inexplicably arrogant about it, but I’d suggest that, given the resources, any number of fans would love to have such a collection.
I say more power to the guy. I’d love to see a Sigma 6 collection like this!

Because of this guy, figures go rare and their value goes up! He must have connections in major toy stores so that he can snap them up in bulks.
Dammit, I think if I emailed him, he wouldnt mind donating few figures for my own collection!

Fucking trust-fund kids… I wonder if his mobile home starts to teeter when he stands next to his collection.

Dear Eric,
Some time ago, you just traded away your love for Transformers for your childhood desire for something more important.
Recognition.
Period.
There is no such thing as a “serious” collector. You’re making into a competition and thereby ruining it.
By the way, you can rationalize away all day telling yourself that they’re all jealous, but we know it when we see it. I’d much rather hang with the gay Wonder Woman collector myself. He’s got the much less superior attitude.

Quincy, I don’t think it’s a trust fun. He makes money as a DJ (from what he says in the forums). If you make a decent wage and put 99% percent of it into toys, then this is what you get.
PJ wow, good point about “serious” collectors.

I wanted to edit my previous comment so I asked Paul to take out my previous posting.
GI Joes, TFs and Star Wars are great things to collect to the extent that it’s at a moderate level; otherwise, other people, especially hot gorgeous women, look at you funny. Need balance.

This guy has a problem. As pointed out he doesn’t just host pics of his collection, he joins every forum in creation and posts links to and pics of his collection each time he posts, even hijacking discussions and making it about him. Then when people call him on being an arrogant ass about it, he whines and says he’s leaving the interwebs:

Mind you, this particular board is easily one of the snarkiest Transformers board in existence.

You mean there’s a Transformers board in existence that ISN’T snarky beyond belief?
