Prepare for Ground Assault, Lego Style
One of the greatest joys that the internet brings me are elaborate Lego sets done in Star Wars themes. This set I ran across is no different and is perhaps one of the best Lego dios I’ve ever seen. It’s a depiction of the Hoth battle from The Empire Strikes Back and it is simply stunning:
According to Brothers Brick, this set is 5 feet by 10 feet and contains 55,000 to 60,000 Lego pieces and over 50 working lights. One of the coolest features is a remote mechanism that deploys troops from the custom AT-ATs. I know this word doesn’t get used much, but I feel I should say, “zounds” to that.
Here’s the working winch. According to the expanded universe troops are actually deployed by the AT-AT lowering itself to the ground. This is much cooler.
The interior of this set is amazing. It looks like it was ripped right from the film, if George Lucas had saved a lot of money and filmed it entirely with Lego bricks.
I’m currently trying to suppress my inner nerd who is freaking out at the continuity error of Luke being in the bacta tank during the battle of Hoth. It’s not working.
I think this dio was made to send me in various states of nerd joy. Just the fact that the hanger doors open and close is enough to make me smile.

All I can ask for is moar. The attention to detail here is nothing short of amazing and screams for more closeups.
I’m floored that the designer actually took the time to “smooth out” the snow. THEN he adds snowdrifts and footprints from the marching troops. Incredible. Thanks for sharing Paul.
