SDCC ‘08: Marvel Universe

by

I’m going to switch to something that I don’t normally cover on Toy Bender, Marvel superhero figures. Why go down that road now you aren’t asking yourself? For one reason and one reason only: The new Marvel Universe figures are a kick in the balls of awesome.

The Marvel Universe action figures are in the 3 3/4ths scale (modern G.I. Joe size for you newbs) and I’m practically insane for that scale. This is mostly due to the fact that all my favorite toy lines from my childhood were this size. It doesn’t just take that scale to make an awesome toy line though. The rather disappointing debut of DC’s new DC Infinite Heroes can attest to that. Nay, these Marvel Universe figures have completely ball dropping* sculpts for their size. Just check out this Captain America figure found on HissTank.com.

I’m wetting my pants at the thought of having this cap lead my G.I. Joes into battle. Other figures shown at the San Diego Comic Con this year that have me in a tizzy are Silver Surfer and an in scale Hulk. I’ve also heard that Moon Knight will be released. Moon Knight!

My only complaint? How about coming up with a better name for the line than Marvel Universe, Hasbro? It’s a little hard to easily find info on the web using just those two words in a search string. Now I’ve got to put “Marvel Universe toys” or “Marvel Universe action figures” in all my searches and even then I get all kinds of figure lines as a result… lame. I also demand “classic” Captain America, because Ultimate will do in a pinch, but I needs me some wings on Captain America’s head, tiny, pointless wings.

*Balls.

I’m with you on this Paul. I’ve frothing with the aspect of a 3.75″ Iron Fist! You can see him in the diorama they had at SDCC. Finally I can retire my horrible ToyBiz version (whom my fiance calls Aqua Fire Guy … because he looks like Aquaman on fire … I guess?)

  3. Michael Says:

Forget Iron Fist, I want Deadpool! Or Union Jack!

  4. Paul Says:

I guess I’ll continue coverage on these guys. I’m glad I’m not the only one excited about this!

it’s about time. 3 3/4 scale is the way to go. now if DC would go back to it similar to their Super Powers line.

  6. Esbat Says:

I’m super excited they’re gonna look this good.

I’m just glad people finally recognize the DC Infinite Heroes for the hunks of ass they are…

  8. Kenibatz Says:

Thanks for the info. It helped me make a decision to get the Iron Man figure which is, as you said, “a kick in the balls awesome”. :D

I’m now looking forward to Thor and a “616″ Captain America (though that Ultimate one looks cool too). :D
