SDCC ‘09: He-Man and G.I. Joe
Man, the problem with SDCC and this here blog is that I can’t keep up with all the stuff going down. So I guess my best strategy is really focus on what really gives me a boner (toy collecting wise) and ignore the less bonerific stuff. I also figure that you get your news other places and you come here for mostly my take on certain things, so it’s easier for all of us just to focus on a few items.
He-Man
In the world of He-Man, I have three words for you: Battle Fucking Cat

Now I haven’t gotten any of the new Mattel Masters of the Universe figures (He-Mans) so far, mostly because of price. I will however now need a He-Man when he’s re-released, because I can’t imagine a world where I don’t have this new kick ass Battlecat and no He-Man to fight with him. I don’t say this often, but that shit is tight. I’m also digging that Teela in there, mostly because that means now that there’s a female body I’m hoping that She-Ra (Princess of Sexy) will be soon to follow.
G.I. Joe
In the world of G.I. Joe, I had an idea that some of the stuff was coming out that was revealed, but it’s still great to see things like this:

I love the old mini-playsets and I’m glad they’re back. I was hoping for a Cobra Battle Bunker, but haven’t seen one yet. Anyone else know if that was at the con? I think out of the sets I’ve seen so far, I really need to get the Surveillance Post. To often do my Cobra troops have to rely on spotty intel. Yeah, can you tell I still don’t have a job?
Overall though, from what I’ve seen of the Joe offerings so far it’s pretty damned dissapointing. I remember being at the con when the 25th line was still new and almost every figure made me giddy with Joe. With so many of the ones on display either being repaints or based on Rise of Cobra, it’s hard to still be excited about G.I. Joe.

I was 18 colors of pissed off seeing that awesome Rampage figure (or Heavy Metal if you prefer) packaged with a re-issue of the RHINO, and a crappy re-issue at that. Neon green missiles? Is it 1993 again?

That playset is a happy event! More playsets! And yes, I want the bunker.

I love all the Joe stuff. I agree I can’t be as excited about the RoC stuff, but it’s all good stuff and I’m content with putting some NEW stuff into my Joe collection, even if it’s old stuff redone.
I’m sure we’ll get a 25th style whoever eventually and in the mean time they are bringing the goodies.
I like the MOTUC stuff.
I hate the SDCC though. I mean, not really…. But sorta. TOO much stuff all at once.

Paul, did you see that one of the exclusive Alpha class vehicles is the S.N.A.K.E. armor? I think it’s going to be at Target. Talk about chubbing up.
But much like yourself, I have never even thought about getting a He-Man until seeing that Battle Cat. Looks amazing.

I can’t wait for that Battle Cat. It’s awesome that he has the same level of articulation as the figures, too. And best of all, you know what this means: Panthor can’t be too far behind! Mattel does so love to reuse their molds.
Some of that Joe stuff looks pretty good. I picked up a couple of the Joe RoC figures via the 2 for $9.99 sale at TRU yesterday; they’re pretty nice. I’m really digging all the Vipers.

They’re “nanomite” missiles. It works.

Templar: You’re right. In the context of the film, it does indeed work.
