SDCC Cobra Commander Contest Entries Part II
It’s time for more contest entries from the SDCC Cobra Commander contest that concluded a few weeks ago! This time let’s take a look at a few of the poetry submissions and some of the illustrations I received.
There were a few poems that knocked the later Joe mythos:
Scott Rosenberg
Untitled Haiku
Burgess Meredith,
You deserved a better role.
La La La La LaBut it could be worse.
Golobulus became a toy,
Big Lob is AWOL
Matt Semmler
Cobra Commander
Leader of the Masked Legions
Serpentor’s a Douche
Why all the hating, guys? Oh yeah, the movie kind of sucked…
This is my personal favorite out of all the poems:
Zach Swarr
‘Destro’ a Haiku
the silver head
a plunging neckline
the thong remains hidden
I think that’s more than we ever needed to know about Destro.
We didn’t get a whole lot of G.I. Joe related illustrations for the contest, but the ones we did get were top quality considering the short deadline. The first one we have is a picture of Cobra Commander on his throne from Da Tran Man from OAFE’s message boards. I think that he looks rather regal and deserves to be on my refrigerator:
Following the theme of “badasses in chairs” this Destro by Travis Yielding fills the bill nicely:
Monkeyboy from OAFE provided a Snake Eyes picture that I find quite interesting stylistically:
And by that I mean, I could never draw that good, ever.
This Nemesis Enforcer picture by Brent Padgett is pretty kick ass. It almost looks like there was a photo reference used of some really pissed off muscle man… with giant bat wings.
The entry from our friend Savage of Old Man Musings wasn’t an illustration in the traditional sense, but it was pretty cool:
That’s all for this post. Keep checking back here for the final part in this series where I will post some of the favorite character entries along with a couple of the short stories.

Semmler FTW!
Serpentor is in fact a douche and the worst 25th anniversary figure to date.
