Star Wars at Toy Fair 2008: The Clone Free Edition Part 1
There was a lot of new Star Wars info that came out of the 2008 Toy Fair. In order to make sure I got everything, this is the first part of the non-clone related Star Wars news. Part two will follow shortly. Now let’s get to it!
Star Wars Legacy Collection
The Legacy Collection is the waves that contain figures either seen in the films or variations of characters seen in the original films. Wave one will street on 7/26 and consist of the following 8 characters.
Wave 1
Han Solo

Hasbro went with a neat theme on this one, the main characters are from a scene in Return of the Jedi that got cut. Where can you see it? Not on the DVDs, because George Lucas is an asshole.
Luke Skywalker

Chewbacca

Leektar & Nippet

How can you not want an Ewok baby?! Looks like my plan to refurbish my old Ewok village and filling it with Ewoks and dead Stormtroopers is going back into action.
Yarna Dal Gargan

It both saddens and sickens me that Hasbro has run out of figures that they have to resort to this mess.
Bane Malor

I’d have never imagined in my wildest dreams that the guy that gets knocked down by Princess Leia in Jabba’s Palace would have been made into a figure.
Ak-Rev

Another useless figure comes courtesy of the new “improved” Jabba’s Palace dance number. This is perfect for those who got Wal-Mart exclusive Jabba’s Band and have no taste.
Darth Vader

Here’s… um… Darth Vader. Yay!?
R4-D6 (buildable)

R7-Z0 (buildable)

Wave 2
Here’s all the figs from Wave 2, which I’ve discussed here.
R7-T1 (buildable)

R4-J1 (buildable)

The Droid Factory
No, don’t get excited. They aren’t releasing a version of the classic Droid building playset… sigh. This is a program that’s basically a build-a-figure. With every wave that comes out that contains eight figures, you can collect pieces to build two Astromech droids (see above figures). In waves that contain less figures, you can build a protocol droid. The parts are interchangeable between the respective models, so you can customize your droids to what parts are available. In addition, Wal-Mart is having an exclusive Droid Factory wave in July that contains these figures:
Plo Kloon & R4-F5

Luke & R2-D2 (with blast damage)

This is a nice set simply based on the fact that there hasn’t been a damaged R2-D2 like this yet. He’s just perfect to replicate the moment in Star Wars A New Hope when Darth Vader burnt his ass.
Darth Vader & K-3PX

Evil droid! EVIL!
Kit Fisto & R4-H5

Watto & R2-TO

Uh oh. A Watto re-release only means one thing, Jar Jar isn’t too far behind. Be afraid, be very afraid.
Han Solo & K-3PO

If you get all six packs, you can build yourself C-3PX, which seems to be some sort of weapon sporting C-3PO. I suppose I could look it up and see what he’s about, but the answer will undoubtedly hurt my brain and make me dumber.

A protocol droid sporting blasters? Methinks Lucas ran out of clone trooper variants…

Good one GWS.
So not only are there assloads of clonetrooper variants, but now droids? What the hell are you going to do with an army of droids? Fix Amadala’s ship in 5 minutes rather than 10? Can you imagine all that incessant beeping and booping from 50 R2/R4/R-random number droids?
Hasbro should just make some Order 66 Droid packs so collector’s can get their color variants together and not have to buy the same main character for the 20th time. It’s a good thing I don’t give a damn about droid variants, the clonetroopers are bad enough as it is.

Thank God for this new line, with lesser clones to collect, I can finally start saving up!
