Star Wars Figure Update: Hasbro Answers for December
Sir Steve’s Guide has posted their final Hasbro answers for the end of the year and one of the answers in particular is fairly tantalizing.
The question was: Can Hasbro give us an idea of how many waves and figures there will be in ‘07? And roughly how many from each movie or EU source?
there are nine waves of the 30th Basic Figure line (which I think you are asking about), not including Saga Legends or comic packs which are separate SKUs. There are 60 figures in the 30th figure line, of which 8 are McQuarrie figures. The remaining figures break down as follows: 50% are original trilogy, 25% are prequel, and 25% are from other sources, including some Clones Wars. I cannot give more specifics on this breakdown, in order to save some surprises.
What I like is that there are going to be nine McQuarrie figures. Anyone want to venture a guess which ones they will be? I’d certainly take a McQuarrie inspired R2-D2 and C-3PO art deco versions myself.

Who wouldn’t want a McQuarrie Vader? I’d also like to get the Scuba Luke Skywalker too.

There are a ton of other concept pictures that I used to drool over as a kid, but unfortunately I don’t have access to those books at the moment. I loved seeing what different types of troops would have looked like. Hopefully some of those guys will get made too.
I realize that they didn’t say anything about vehicles, yet I always thought these alternate smaller versions of the snow speeders would be great toys. They look like they could exist in the Star Wars universe alongside everything else we see on the screen.

Anyone else have any McQuarrie figures (or vehicles) that they’d like to see? All I know for sure is that there better be some Warren Fung concept figures down the road too…

The idea of concept art figures is definitely a nod to the collectors market out there. I’m not sure to many kids would want a figure that they couldn’t catagorize into one of the six movies.
I thinks the idea is pretty awesome though.

On the whole I’d have to agree with you, however I don’t know what kid wouldn’t want a stormtrooper with a lightsaber. Too bad they are only going to be one per case. ARGH Hasbro!

[...] What a sweet figure set to pick as an exclusive. Normally, I don’t get all rilled up about non-clones/Fetts/or other assorted badasses, but I have to make an exception in this case. R2-D2 and C-3PO here are the continuation of the cool McQuarrie inspired figures I wrote about way back in December. The real downer is that if these guys aren’t made available after the convention in any other form, then the only way to get them will be to pay a fortune on the secondary market for them. [...]
