Star Wars Titanium Series to End After ‘09

It wasn’t really that surprising that Hasbro recently announced that it’s Titanium line would be ending after ‘09. They certainly haven’t seemed as hot as they were when they were first introduced. What went wrong?

I was really into the line when it first came out, but there were a few things that quickly became apparent. Number one was that there was an endless parade of repaints. Secondly, when the line started getting mixed together with Transformers and later Marvel ones by inept retailers, I was pretty much done with the whole thing. It was insane trying to find new Titanium vehicles in a sea of Beastmaster Optimus Prime peg warmers. Another nail in the coffin would certainly have to be price. At six to seven bucks a pop, comparatively speaking they are a pretty low value to other toys in that price range. I’d much rather have a G.I. Joe figure over a metal ship.

Is there anyone else who is going to miss the Titanium Series ships?

I’ll miss it. The Titanium series is the last link to my beloved MicroMachines. I always liked to have miniature Star Wars vehicles. They have become laughably overpriced, and the line never should have expanded beyond spaceships. The repainting is understandable. Just buy the decos you like.

I get the Titanium BSG ships. It sucks that they’re shortpacked to begin with, and they get grabbed up quick by those looking to cash in on the secondary market or end up being purchased by moms who couldn’t tell the difference between an Snowspeeder and a Raptor. Fortunately, I’ve gotten lucky at toy shows (without getting ravaged) to grab some of the ones i missed … but I’ll be definitely looking for the Cylon Baseship.

I have a near full run of the Star Wars and BSG titaniums. I buy multiples of the rarer ones and they sell like hotcakes. With the line ending I’m going to have to find a new niche item to scalp lol

But Paul if there are any specific ones you’re after I’ll fix you up good at retail (or less as I tend to get them on clearance in my area alot).

I love the line. Managed to get most of them. Nothing quite like die-cast. But it seems late in the game for them to finally realize that theres a market for the Extended Universe ships (of which there are countless). I dunno, I did however sell off most of them except all the tie-fighters. Cest la vie.
