TAtTF: Max Rebo Band from Kenner

The other day when I went on my jag about how the “new” Max Rebo band sucks compared to the power trio of old, I went looking around for a toy commercial to share that might have them in the background. Little did I know that they had their own commercial. Jebus, what Star Wars characters didn’t get their own commercial back in the day?

Even though the Max Rebo band is a group that wouldn’t lend itself to much dramatic storytelling outside of a crappy Star Wars Expanded Universe novel, the kids in the commercial find a way to create a violent story where Sy Snoodles is sent to her death for defying Jabba the Hutt. I have a feeling that if this was a commercial featuring girls playing with Star Wars toys that the band would have sang and maybe Sy Snoodles would have hooked up with a prince.

This also brings up a point that I always wondered about when I was a kid. In the Kenner version of Jabba’s throne there’s a “trap” door that opens up the wrong way and has about an inch of ceiling clearance. I know it’s to simulate the trap door that would send Jabba’s victims down to meet the Rancor, but in this version it is a fate that is perhaps much worse… could you imagine would it would be like to be trapped underneath Jabba’s fat ass? The horror… the horror!
