TAtTF: Mr. Machine - Savage Style

Here’s a super bonus Toy Ads That Time Forgot from our friend Savage. I’ve got a couple left from Savage, which is extremely helpful in saving my ass. Thank you, sir. This post deals with a toy that I’ve had requests for before, Mr. Machine. I hope you’re grateful, you lovely whiners.
Mr Machine is real and for you he is ideal. He’s rusty and he’s sharp and you might cut yourself on him. But that’s half the fun of a real metal and bolt toy from the 1960’s. Isn’t that tune catchy? It’s part of a popular marketing technique, then you just add kids and robots = successful toy line. Even though Mr Machine was robot-like creation he was in the shape of a man wearing a top hat. They gave him a permanent smile to make him less intimidating. A sneering robot just wouldn’t do as it might insight a panic.
They continue to make this amazing toy today, but he’s made of plastic and you can’t disassemble him like the old metal ones. Where’s the fun in that? It’s that reckless behavior of yesteryear that gave the kids character and tetanus.

I just sold my Mr. Machine To some guys at Mattel for a frickin’ cool $150. …It had the metal key.

I work in a toy studio where we stay in regular contact with the upper players with various toy companies… Anyhow, it was Richie Weintraub’s birthday and they wanted to give him a bunch of the IDEAL toys for the big day. The cool part is that he actually tested a majority (if not all) of these toys as a kid. …I had a first-run Mr.Machine and that got bought up into the batch of IDEAL toys to celebrate his birthday.
Richie Weintraub… is the grandson of the guy who created the ‘Teddy Bear’… and you might recall that he was the contact for Trump into Mattel on either the first or second season of The Apprentice. Really great toy guy.

…Anyhow. Mr.Machine is pretty cool. They just recently reissued him. And speaking of cool ‘Big Plastic’ IDEAL toys, be sure to checkout King Zor!
