TatTF: Star Trek Mego U.S.S. Enterprise Action Gift Set

Star Trek doesn’t get enough loving on this site. That’s partially because it kind of sucks and is not at all as cool as Star Wars, but it still has it’s place. I decided to share this Star Trek ad for mainly one reason:
That Enterprise set sure looks cool right? Well I’ll let you in on a big secret that you wouldn’t know if you’ve never seen it. It’s horrendous. I don’t know how they managed to make it look the least bit interesting on film, because this this is just plain awful. I saw this ad and though this thing looked super awesome, then when I actually saw it at a convention I realized how cheap this thing looked.
Head on over to the Mego Museum a moment and take a look at the playset and tell me it doesn’t look like what a kid riding high on Riddlin might dream up. Don’t get me wrong, it sort of works as a toy and is certainly better than not having any kind of Enterprise bridge at all. I think there were a lot of kids that would have been as pleased as pie to receive one of these as a gift. These days? If you gave a kid this thing they’d spit on you before turning back to their Nintendos and MySpaces. It’s quite sad really.
Update: I was reading a bit more about this on the Mego Museum and I find it quite interesting that the Enterprise gift set is pretty rare… however, if it is open you have no way of telling the loose gift set apart from one of the Enterprise sets that have figures added to the lot. Ouch!

[...] So, go … go ahead and leave. Go back to family, your responsibilities and a job that pays more than a Chinese toy factory. [...]

If I wanted a cardboard Star Trek-themed lunch box, I would have demanded that my Mom make me one.
Thankfully I had the good sense to have never, ever wanted one of those.

I absolutely loved it, but I was like, 4 at the time and still played with cardboard boxes.
I made “stage sets” like this for my figures all the way up to the age of 12. So I got no problems at all with it. The best part was just turn it around and you’re “outside” the Enterprise. LOL!
