TAtTF: Star Trek Walken and Talken

I fall in and out of geek franchises all the time and for a few reasons my liking of Star Trek has been reignited a bit. Sure the upcoming J.J. Abrams film might have a bit to do with it, but I can thank unemployment that allowed me to watch lots of Next Generation on TV again. There’s also a writing project I’m working on that has me writing about the show, and then there’s the fact that I’m the biggest geek ever and I picked up a Star Trek: The Next Generation Technical Manual at Half Price Books the other day. Don’t look at me, I’m so hideously nerdy I might offend your sensibilities.
Anyway, this new found love of Star Trek had me thinking I should see what was out there for Star Trek toy ads. I found a few good ones so I’ll be posting them in the upcoming weeks in honor of the upcoming Abrams Star Trek flick.
You’ve got to love the old school walkie talkie action here. Star Trek is the perfect license for those largely outdated toys, due to the communicators being such an iconic part of the show. That antenna is hilarious too, it’s like fifty feet tall! At least they look pretty damned close to the ones seen on the show.
But wait! There’s more! There’s the base station that works with the communicators.
What’s great is that the base station looks pretty much like nothing seen on Star Trek.

Funny, when I was unemployed for a few months back in 2006, all I did was watch ST:TNG eps on SpikeTV too. I remember they had an ad that came on in the morning that said if you were watching this, you were either a.) Sick b.) Unemployed or c.) Playing hooky.

Star Trek sucks.
I’m hoping JJ Abrams breathes some life into what has otherwise been, in my estimation, an overly talky, pompous, up its own ass sorta franchise (but nowhere near as talky, pompous, or up its own ass as Battlestar Galactica, the new IMPORTANT! version).
But that’s just me.

those are great. reminds me of the G.I. Joe walkie talkies my brother and i had when we were kids. boy i miss them. oh, which one of the cats reminds you of yours? from top to bottom - enforcer, nemesis, then krystal. (yes nemesis and enforcer are named after the G.I. Joe character)

Technically, I think that walkie-talkie includes a rape alarm.
Boys, don’t get into that guy’s panel van. No matter how much delicious candy he promises you.
