The Big Millennium Falcon is Mine!
Well kids, I finally did it. I broke down and bought the new big ass Millennium Falcon. It would be a crime to not share my faults with you, since A. It’s one of the most talked about and anticipated toy events of the last few years and B. any reader of this blog has contributed to the purchase by indirectly funding the thing. Thank you kindly, dear readers.
I knew it was big, but damn it’s friggen huge after it’s opened. It didn’t take long to get it assembled and even less time before I got all the stickers in place. As a side note, I really love putting stickers on toy vehicles. I wish it was a high paying gig, because I’m damn good at it.
The first thing I really dug about this beast is the shear size, which is pretty much expected. It’s nice to finally have four figures in the cockpit, although it does take a little work to get them sitting down in a semi-natural looking pose. It’s even tougher to get a figure sitting in that gunners seat, but they look awesome when they are in. One detail that I really like about the gunner’s station is that it’s got a nicely sized viewing window for the gun turret both on the top and the bottom of the ship.
The numerous fancy lights/sounds are completely rad. It’s fun going through them all and it took me quite awhile before I found out all the functions. Out of the many sounds and lights there are a few that really stand out for me. The first is when you are going through the cockpit related sound bites and Luke says, “What’s that flashing!?” the cockpit lights actually flash! How sweet is that? The boarding ramp is something out of my childhood dreams with the fact that it makes noise, opens, and lights up.

There’s a Twisted ToyFare Theatre in here somewhere.
One of the most enjoyable aspects of this Millennium Falcon doesn’t even come from the movies. The small fighter (or pimped out escape pod as I like to think of it) that docks with the BMF is an astoundingly cool addition. The very fact that the hatch makes a sound when it opens, the pod makes a noise when it leaves, and the hatch makes a sound when it closes makes this one of the coolest toy features ever.
It isn’t all roses though. One thing that I never thought of before picking this sucker up is the weight. I’d like to know how a small kid would be able to lift it satisfactorily. In addition to the weight, I can imagine that swooshing it around might be a bit of a difficult task for a kid. I have a hard enough time practicing swooshing to see how it would work myself and in my apartment; I both looked retarded and realized that the older Falcon was a much better “flier”.
Another problem I had with it, if it could be considered a problem, is that it is very hard to enjoy it all the once. When the rear lights are on, you want to see the front and cock pit lights, when those are going you want to see what the rear is doing. It’s so big that you can’t take it all in, you must enjoy it in sections.
While there is enough room in the Falcon to provide a good enough play area, I do wish that you could access more of the back part of the ship. I understand that in order to retain the structural integrity that it had to remain sealed off, but it’s still a shame. I can deal with it though, because the old one always had me wishing I could get into the front half of the ship that was closed off. As a side note, I find it funny that when the Falcon is all closed up and I want to take the back panels off to get to the insides of the ship. Why? Because that’s the section that I opened up hundreds if not thousands of times in my childhood. Old habits die hard I suppose.
Overall, the new Millennium Falcon is one of the greatest toys ever with it’s amazing amount of features. If I was a kid then this would be the holy grail of toys. I can still enjoy it now, but sadly not on the same level. Still, it keeps me warm at night and I recognize that this is a good contender for toy of the year or even toy of the decade.
*Thanks to me for providing the crappy pictures.

You have a BAT you bastard?! I Likes me my Falcon, but you bastard, you have a BAT!
August 19th, 2008 at 11:05 am
I have two. One I kept in the package. Oh yeah, and I sold the other two. Hehe. I managed to find two for myself at a store a long while back and then I got a couple with a case I ordered. As much as I wanted three open and one MOC I can’t afford it so the extra two had to go.

excellent review Paul, it’s one amazing toy indeed!

Bastard. Whelp, when I put the stickers on my Falcon, I was not steady of hand, so some are a little crooked. So again, you’re a bastard for natural sticker talents. (My big brother always hooked up my GIJoe decals.)

Congrats man. My girlfriend and I were looking at these yesterday, but she always seems to hint that I’m not getting one for my birthday(a week away too
)
But I’m thinking that if I play my cards right, I’ll be getting that GI Joe Ultimate Battle pack or whatever.
And hooray for BAT owners. The head on mine broke the day I got it. Bitter? No, because I can find them ALL over town..grr..

Well, I’m impressed. Too bad I have NO ROOM WHATSOEVER for that thing. And decals and stickers are the bane of my toy collection. In other words, I’m calling you to put them on.

Great pictures!
I looked at the Millennium Falcon briefly while at Target, awhile ago. I picked it up to see how heavy it was, but I did not buy it. I hope you’ve made room for your cool new toy, as I seem to be running out of open space to put stuff.
P.S. We’re getting older. Don’t tweak your back lifting that thing.
P.P.S. I still have my original Cobra B.A.T.
P.P.P.S. I see that smile of yours in bed with that! Don’t go “poking” the back part of the ship and ruining it’s structural integrity.

For those of you who have made comments about space, well I have none. It’s going to end up on the porch or something in the box with the front forks poking out.
I plan on putting it in the future G.I. Joe/Star Wars room/basement that seems to be so far away in the future…

I was wishing that when i clicked on your pictures, it would show me higher resolution pictures… but alas not. My eye’s suck, I have a hard time seeing the details on you pictures.
But still, great write up..I saw that beast at a store the other day and immediately overruled my own desire to buy it.

I forgot to remind you to be careful with the landing gear.

The more I see it the more I want to get it. It is hard to not pick it up when I see it there on the shelf at Wal-Mart, but I need to wait until funds are a little better.
Of course I have my AT-TE and clones until that day comes…

I actively dislike Star Wars in all its ridiculous incarnations, and even I want this bloody toy!
Nice post, man. It’s cool seeing you interacting with your toys… although I don’t know that we need to see you doing so in such an intimate manner; to paraphrase Janeane Garafalo: It’s okay to love your toys. Just don’t LOVE your toys.
Good stuff!

I heard triumphant trumpets in my head when I read the first line of your post.
Best photo-accompaniment of a MF review post… EVER.

I’m sure that one of those things are in my son’s toy collecting future…but that basement that’s far off in the future better not be at my house…at least till I’m dead.

I really want one of these, even though I have zero funds and absolutely no place to put it. I mean, absolutely no funds and zero place to put it. I mean…ah, crap, I’ll probably try to buy one at Christmas.
