The Future of G.I. Joe in 2008

Hasbro recently released one sweet press release outlining the future of G.I. Joe in 2008. First off, the line seems to be undergoing a slight name change as 2008 is no longer the 25th Anniversary, rather it looks like it’s going to be referred to as G.I. Joe Vs. Cobra.
The release outlines some juicy vehicle news among some other great points, but here’s my quick thoughts:
Battlepacks
2008 will see the continuation of G.I. Joe battlepacks. What’s cool is that they will include a five episode mini-series along with themed figures from that mini-series. This is excellent news if you’re a huge fan of the cartoon series and can’t afford the super expensive out of print DVDs. F-you Sony.
Vehicles
We asked for more vehicles and Hasbro listened. The press release reveals the Cobra V.A.M.P, the Armadillo tank, and Serpentor’s Chariot.
Single Carded Figures
There will be a whopping 40 single releases throughout the year. Pray to god 20 of them aren’t Storm Shadow and/or Snake Eyes. They will still be carded in vintage packaging, so the awesome will keep on rolling.
Comic Two Packs
2008 will have 15 comic two packs. Again, pray that half of them won’t be Storm Shadow or Snake Eyes.
Twelve Inch Figures
While Hasbro doesn’t mention Sideshow in the press release, twelve inch is what they are all about. What’s really interesting to note is that they are only fifteen bucks a pop for figures like, Snake Eyes, Cobra Commander, and Flint. Does this mean that there will be two lines of 12 inch figures (which is horribly confusing) or is Sideshow doing a cheaper, mass market line?

Honestly, with what I’ve seen for lineups in the upcoming waves, I’ll probably drop GI Joe from my already anemic search list.
They are moving a bit too far into the “crazy mutants and stuff” category for my tastes. I prefer my “slightly homoerotic yet more or less standard soldiers” Joes.
PS Gung-ho, I’m looking at you!

Bring back Sigma 6!

Monte, I don’t think that will happen any time soon. Maybe in 25 years when kids who grew up on it are nostalgic for it’s return?

=D
Yeah, I like’em both, but c’mon… I never cared about owning 20 different variations of them.
And Monte — Sigma 6 FAILED, I tell you– FAILED! =P
