The G.I. Joe Movie has a Writer

Since my last post about the G.I. Joe film was so popular, here’s a new bit of G.I. Joe movie news: G.I. Joe has a writer in Stuart Beattie.
According to IMDB, Beattie was one of the writers for the first Pirates of the Caribbean film and one of the hundred and fifty writers for the sequels, although in those he’s credited for “characters. ” If the Pirate movies had one thing that worked well it was the variety of great characters, so hopefully it’ll help when it comes to writing G.I. Joe which is composed entirely of unique characters. Beattie’s other credits include Collateral and while I have never seen that, I have seen Collateral Damage. And if it’s anything like Collateral Damage, it must totally awesome because that’s the film where Schwarzenegger didn’t use guns to kill people. Oh no, he used HIS MIND.
Anyway, remember how I said I wouldn’t freak out like a big geek? Well, this bit in Variety freaked me out… a lot:
Story is set at Brussels-based G.I.J.O.E., an acronym for the Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity, and revolves around an international co-ed force of operatives who use high-tech equipment to battle Cobra, an evil org headed by a double-crossing Scottish arms dealer.
Brussels based? Wah?! I knew they were going a bit more international on this, but Brussels based? How lame is that? Was Luxembourg taken?
And the Scottish arms dealer, is that Destro? Sigh, at least they said that Cobra is in it…
