The Gunship Whine
Posting those pictures of the Star Wars: Attack of the Clones Lego battle scene the other day wasn’t the wisest move on my part. After staring at them while I picked them out of various folders, resized, and uploaded them, it really made me want one of those Republic Gunships.
When the Gunships first came out I thought they were pretty wicked cool, but they were costly coming in at about 90 bucks. I’m a huge fan of the Gunship in general (I’ve got the action figure scaled version and the small Titanium Series edition), but since these Lego Gunships came out in the ultra-lean years for me (I’m in the normal lean years now), there was no way in hell I could have afforded one. I also wasn’t as pro-Lego as I am at the moment, so that didn’t help justify such a large expense.
Anyway, I’m staring at these pictures and I think, “Damn I should see if I can get one of these Gunships. I don’t care if it’s in the box or not so I went to eBay on a search for toys. Holy Crapballs Batman! The Lego Republic Gunship is now going for at least 180.00 dollars on up. If you have on in the box it’s going for an astounding 300.00 dollars. God isn’t it always like this, when you don’t want something the price will rise nearly ten fold later, but if you buy a collectable thinking it will cost a lot more eventually, it never does.
I’d ask you readers where I could get one cheap, but now that I just told you how much they cost now you’d be foolish to sell one to me for a decent price! I’ll have to find someone to trick into selling me their’s for cheap. That’s right, Lego has turned me evil.
Whenever something like this happens, I hope the toy manufacturer takes note. If people are willing to pay 300 smackers for a gunship now, that means there’s enough interest to generate a re-release of the set, don’t you think? Lego, seriously at least offer them on your website, you don’t even have to design a new box or anything. I’d be first in line to get one. Don’t make me beg, I like to have a little dignity that I can call my own.

Two words: Yard Sale. You can find anything at a yardsale, although the condition might be slightly less than mint

I know, but I just moved to California here and I have the natural fear that all small town mid-westerners have of the big city. I think, I should stop at that yard sale, but then a small dairy farmer appears on my shoulder and says, “I don’t know about that, you might get shot in the face, ya hear?”
And I drive on.

Hey Keith, if you like my stuff on here you might want to check out http://www.digitalmonkeybox.com. I talk about everything that is not toy related there. Its a site I started with a buddy of mine (the spawn collector). Be sure to come back here when you’re done though! hehe
(Oh I forgot: I do have a Starcom article there that I wrote before I knew that I was going to do this. Curses! I could have had another update for here then!)

I’ll check it out. Thanks!

Oh, no! You’ve allowed Legos to turn you to the Dark Side!
My fiancee, the huge Lego fan, has one, but wouldn’t part with it for the world. I can keep an eye out if you’d like, though. He has lots of resources for Legos!
Thanks for the link to your other blog. I’m going to check it out, too!

Lol thanks Gayle, let me know if you find one. I’m hoping they’ll start making them again, as they won a poll on Lego’s Star Wars website as favorite big set. They said they’d pass it on to their development team, so I’ll hold out hope.
Don’t be too offended by my other website. It can be pg 13 at times.
