The Hunt: G.I. Joe 25th Anniversary Success

Oh yeah, we’re going old school Toy Bender… if old school was a couple of months ago. I finally had a toy hunt success in a retail store that I’d like to brag about. After months of anticipation and weeks of fruitless searching (which included major disappointment at the Hasbro Toy Shop booth at San Diego Comic-Con) I finally managed to bag a G.I. Joe 25th Anniversary figure at retail.
The store was Target and I was only there because I needed milk and I thought, “Oh, what the Hell I better go to the toy aisle just in case.” I walked down the action figure aisle to find one lonely Joe hanging on a peg hook… Snake Eyes! Out of all the Joes that I could have found only Storm Shadow could have topped this one for me.

The card wasn’t in the best of shape, so I was forced to open the figure. By, “wasn’t in the best of shape”, I mean there were some scuffs and I kind of wanted him open anyway (shut up you toy openers) so it wasn’t wall hangable in my estimation. Opening the toy also afforded me the option of writing about him in more detail for the blog so I consider this a win win situation. Snake Eyes is about as cool as I hoped he would be, with some great articulation and nice sculpting. The only negatives that I can think of are his sword is kind of crappy with a hilt that seems disproportionately long and a blade that seems too short for an action figure. He also doesn’t have a back pack peg hole, which to me is one of the big hallmarks of the entire G.I. Joe line. You can put his knife in his boot, but where do you put the sword? Maybe that’s just me though. Overall this is an awesome figure and he’s going to find a home somewhere on my Tactical Battlestation.
Now if this “review” is lacking any depth I’ve never claimed to be toy reviewing expert, I leave that up to fine folks like the ones at OAFE to do the more in-depth reviews and to hassle me about not opening all my toys. As a pretty non-picky toy collector I’m extremely satisfied with the 25th Anniversary single carded Snake Eyes and can’t wait to hunt down some more of these figures.
Until then, I’ll rejoice with my small victory.

Wow, what an auspicious trip to Target. And what’s up with no peg-hole in the backpack? That was half of the appeal of the ninja-type Joes like Storm Shadow when I was a kid.
