This Month In ToyFare: Issue 125
Yes, I know. I missed an issue of ToyFare. It wasn’t entirely my fault though. The combination of moving, not having the internet, and being to lazy to scan the cover all played a part in the last “This Month in ToyFare”. Now that we’re back on track though, let’s get rocking.
Page 10 - wish/list: I’m not completely enamored with Stephen Colbert like the rest of the world appears to be, but this is one fine custom figure.
Page 18: Can someone tell me who collects all the nearly naked anime statues and how they could possibly have a girlfriend or wife that respects them?
Page 20: I don’t know what half of that text box says for those Robotech toys, but the figures look pretty wicked.
Bottom of Page 20: I think if I ever won the chance to be in a film because I’m one of the biggest Transformer fans ever, my dad would kill himself and rightly he should.
Page 24: I somehow missed the news that NECA was going to make Ninja Turtles figures based on their original comic look. Damn that’s awesome.
Page 27: Judge Dredd has fought Aliens? Jebus who hasn’t fought them by now?
Pages 30 and 31: Wow, Tonner sure knows how to make Batman look shitty and Aquaman ultra gay..er. Harley Quinn on the other hand is pretty sweet and that Joker gives me nightmares.
Page 32: I’m awarding the monkey’s line, “The Best Speech Based Joke” of the issue. I don’t know why, but it just struck me as so bizarre as to be worth some sort of recognition.
Page 33: I’m almost taking that award away for what the Cylon is saying here. Almost.
Page 39: I’m just going to make a note that my roomate Shawn is the BIGGEST fan of Gama-Go merch EVER so I’m pretty sure he’s going to get this Deathbot.
Page 46 though 58 - Geeks Bearing Gifts: This is the obligatory holiday guide that all magazines must produce this time of year under penalty of death.. It’s true, Cat Fancy’s staff was set on fire last year. At least this gift guide was created under the ToyFare staff and not some jerks at Redbook. Let me also mention that the chick at the beginning is hot before I share my thoughts on some of the gifts:
-I can’t understand why that R2-D2 trash can is 150 bucks. It’s a trash can!
-I gotta gets me that Blade Runner collection!
-Nice work slipping in that Twisted Toyfare Theatre book, I’m on to you! Still, it would make a decent gift if you knew someone who liked ToyFare. Maybe someone who wrote a blog? I’m just saying…
-Bioshock Limited Edition is a really good gift idea. You get an awesome looking toy and a super awesome game.
Pages 60 to 63 - Master of a Universe: You know, there’s nothing that will send me into a spiraling depression of “What have I done with my life?” than learning that the screenwriter for He-Man, Voltron, the new Street Fighter, and Super Max (the Green Arrow in prison film) is two years younger than me. Now I hope He-Man sucks! Yes, I’m that pathetic thanks for asking.
Pages 64 to 77 - Ultimate Weapons: This is one of a hell of a great list, even if it isn’t totally related to toys. Like any good list this one has a few questionable items and placement therein, but I can’t disagree with the top 10. I don’t believe that Green Lantern’s ring gets enough respect and it’s nice to see some recognition here.
Page 78 to 83: Twisted ToyFare Theatre: This is simply one of the best TTT that I’ve seen in awhile. Two jokes stood out as the best: The fact that Master Chief won’t let the regular army guy join because his mask doesn’t cover his face and when the Spartans get Mega Men powers. Awesome!
Pages 84 and 85 - Top 10 Hottest Action Figures: Darth Revan, you will be mine. Oh yes, you will be mine.

Howdy, TB. Let’s see here…
I agree on the MOTU screenwriter thing. As someone who once hoped to make a living as a writer of fiction or screenplays, I’m painfully jealous/resentful of this young turk. Where are those sour grapes I ordered?
I also wrote my senior thesis on Beowulf and hoped to script a movie based on it–thanks a lot, Neil Gaiman and Roger Avary! AND there’s a Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser film in production, supposedly. All I need now is a big-budget adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s “The Dunwich Horror” and my failure will be complete.
As for Judge Dredd/Aliens–don’t much care for this, but I did recently nab all three Batman vs. Predator collections off eBay. I’ve only read the first one so far, which was surprisingly good. Bats is probably the only superhero opponent for Pred that seems cool to me.
Like zombies to Dennis Hopper, those Tonner dolls, man–they creep me out.
And yes, this is probably the best TTT in ages. I particularly liked the Spartans’ response to “What is your profession” (”I make bang bang with my gun!”) and the last panel’s “allergy to hammers” comment. I think they could have come up with a better “This…is…” line though (”This…is…MICROSOFT!” I dunno…)
Oh, and in the obligatory Poe’s Shameless Plug©, I’ll have a few articles in next month’s issue (#126, I think). I’m particularly psyched for it, as it’s going to have pics of the third wave of DC Universe figures.

HAHAHAHAHA That’s so true.
“Master of a Universe: You know, there’s nothing that will send me into a spiraling depression of “What have I done with my life?â€? than learning that the screenwriter for He-Man, Voltron, the new Street Fighter, and Super Max (the Green Arrow in prison film) is two years younger than me.”
Completely agree…though he’s two years older than me.

Poe, Thanks for making me feel justified in my petty, petty human thoughts. I look forward to your articles. You’ve really inspired me to get back on the magazine writing track, at least trying to. I mean, if you can do it anyone can right? hehe
Tripper, thanks for stopping by. I’m glad that you are in agreement with me. By the way, when you leave a comment I feel like a Rock star stopped by, at least a ToyFare rock star.

Haha Thanks, Paul! I love reading your monthly take on the magazine…probably because I almost always agree with you! ;P
