Toy Ads That Time Forgot 12-09-2006
Finally, your newest fix of Toy Ads That Time Forgot has arrived. This week we turn our wondrous gaze upon a comic book ad for Micronauts.

What’s sad is that this ad perpetuates the myth that ALIEN MONSTERS WITH BRAINS THAT GLOW IN THE DARK are evil. When can we finally live in a world where horrific creatures won’t be shunned simply because of their glowing brains? Let’s all try to learn to love another despite our differences, shall we?
I’m not sure how many of my readers out there are familar with Micronauts, but my first introduction to them came when I was hanging out at my childhood friend Eric’s house. Eric was my local The Kid Who Had EverythingTM and his brother happened to be the older model. While digging through their vast collection of toys, I found this weird looking figure that was a mix of metal, man, and half a horse and wondered just what it was. It wasn’t until years later did I find out that the figure I had been looking at was from the comic book that I enjoyed, although it practically beared little resemblence to each other.
I was too young for the age of Micronauts, so my opinion of them is a little skewed. I could never really dig the figures, but I’m a big fan of the comics. I’ve always held out hope that someday someone out there will make a toy line based off of its versions of the characters. You can’t tell me that you wouldn’t rest a little easier knowing there was an Acroyear Marvel Legends figure to protect the streets at night.
If you want to know more about the line or would just like to reminisce, I would really suggest checking out Professor Scott Tipton’s detailed exploration of the Micronauts universe. The Professor goes into it into a lot more detail than I could ever hope to achieve and he’s pretty entertaining to boot.

I had the Baron Karza figure as well as one other that I never seemed to know the name of. he was all magnetically link so you could change him form centaur to man and a few other variations as well. Great toys.
