Toy Bender Action Figure Review: R2-D2
For my next action figure review, I decided to give R2-D2 a shot, since I’d already tackled his “other half” a few weeks ago.

Ahh R2-D2, Ernie to C-3PO’s Burt, what would Star Wars be like without you? It would suck, because Luke would have been killed on at least one occasion without his trusty robot buddy around. I can’t wait until we’re living in a time where robots are either gay or helpful. Too bad we have to get past the stage where robots want to kill us first.
What attracted me to this version of the iconic character were the little accessories that come carded with him. I’m a sucker for various scaled Star Wars junk. I expected R2 to be a rather standard version of the character and was pleasantly surprised upon opening the package.
First of all, the paint job looks great. The silver metal dome is all nice and shiny and the white has a bit of a dirty wash that fits this figure well.
One area where I was pleasantly surprised was the issue of his front leg. Both Hasbro and Kenner have dealt with the issue of R2s three legs in various ways throughout the years and I was happy to see that you can take pop off the stubby front leg. While it’s not as nifty as a leg that folds up inside our droid friend, it’s better than one that’s permanently stuck on him.
Other features and details that stand out are the classic use of light piping for his big eye. His “feet” look almost movie accurate, because Hasbro put miniature wiring on them. Perhaps one of the best features about this R2-D2 are the little wheels he has on the bottom of his feet. You read that right; you can roll him around a bit. Finally, by turning his head his little sensor scope doohickey pops out the top of his dome. Sweetness. I particularly like that when you turn his dome it makes a little clicking noise, reminiscent of the old school vintage Kenner R2-D2s.
The box, food container, and power source? They’re all just icing on the cake for this guy.
Score: 5 “R2! Where are you!?”s out of 5
