Whispers of War: G.I. Joes Blowing Sh*t Up!
I recently discovered a really cool G.I. Joe comic curtesy of Toy Bender pal and real life G.I. Joe Red Zone, that’s made with G.I. Joe toys. There’s a few of these things out there, but Whispers of War is the best one I’ve seen so far.

This thing is completely balls to the wall awesome. I can’t even begin to describe how kick ass this is. It’s so ball kicking awesome that when it plants its steel toed boot in your nuts, it will go back in time and your Grandpa will feel it, making him sterile and thereby causing a time paradox.
I realize that I’m selling this pretty hard, so I’ll let Whispers of War speak for itself:

While there are a few over the top scenes, it’s a internet comic featuring toys so I wouldn’t get all Rogert Ebert on this bad boy. It’s simply cool-ass action with a great plot and fantastic dialoge. I read this thing at work and I’ve got to warn you, there was at least two moments where I almost yelled, “F@ck yeah!” I was so pumped up. It’s rare to see a fan made anything that has actual ‘F@ck Yeah’ moments and I was glad I could control myself enough to keep the “F@ck yeah!” strictly in my head.
Whispers of War is basically the story of the G.I. Joe just after they formed and started battling the forces of Cobra. It’s a different take on the traditional story as there are some new characters that the plot hinges on that are created solely for this adventure. This aint no silly over the top cartoon, either. Dudes get killed in a variety of interesting ways, including but not limited to getting shot in the dome. I particularly liked that Cobra Commander and his terrorist organization are portrayed in a fairly realistic manner. Think the Marvel or current comic book series here and not the cartoons.
One of the few bad things I could say about it is that a lot of the pictures are pretty low resolution and could use a little bit more clarity in the first chapter. Also, Whispers of War is not finished and I don’t have any idea when the next installment will be or if it will ever be finished. The website that’s attached to it is pretty old and run down looking. I’d love saying I tried contacting the creator, but I was so blown away by this thing that I’m left weak and helpless. That extra mouse click and typing an email would have have killed me.
Read it. Enjoy it. Have it’s awesome babies.
