Wired for Joes
Everyone’s favorite toy news site Wired… ah hem… recently revealed several G.I. Joe toys from the upcoming live action flick. The most interesting to fans is the reveal of the movie’s version of the Night Raven:

I have to say that while I’m a huge nostalgia based collector, this thing is close enough to the original Night Raven that I’m really digging it. In fact, I’d almost venture to say that if it does see some screen time then this is probably the closest to the source material item in the entire movie. However, it’s about one half smaller than the original Night Raven if that figure standing on top of it is correct. That’s kind of disappointing, because I thought this would be a good chance to get a larger sized vehicle in the Joe line up again. On the bright side, this thing could make a good support craft alongside the original.
There are several other vehicles on Wired, but I haven’t posted them here before so let’s go nuts:

That’s the Ice Dagger. It kind of reminds me of mix between a HISS Tank and the Snow Cat. It’s nice enough, but again as I am nostalgia based I really don’t have much of a desire for it. And what’s with the blue color? Are we heading back into the ’90s era of Joes?
This toy is the Rockslide:

And this one is very clearly a Hummer:

I would prefer the Cobra custom van.

And what’s with the blue color?
It’s for use on the ice?

While none of them are as cool as similar vehicles that have become before, they all still look decent.

Aww, look at the baby Night Raven…
Kind of sucks it’s so small. I never had too many GI Joe vehicles but I did have an original Night Raven. That sucker was huge AND awesome.

The Night Raven’s cockpit mechanisms seems better than the original, though, not sure how the pilots will fit and if it’s even possible in the next decade or two to have a manned military aircraft that small.
On another note, I wonder who designed the distinctive Joe camo pattern…?

I like the snow tank. But Yo, where is there blue ice?

Okay I have a lot to say about these. I could probably start my own blog with my opinion, but I’d rather support Paul and add to the flavor that is toy bender.
Night Raven: It is the night raven in name and color alone. There is no drone, and it is a one man craft. From the looks of it the cockpit may slide back into the tail to compress it, it may look awesome like that, but again its only the name. I like the figure that comes with it, I will get one of these. If it does condense and look cooler small, then I may get up to three.
Ice Dagger: To me this is almost a smaller artic mission Mobile Battle Bunker. I think it just looks that way to me because of the shape. The coloring would probably look better in white, but it looks like it will hold a lot of joes. The frostbite figure I hope comes with an aditional unmasked head to pop on. I will be a little disapointed if it doesn’t I may get an extra snow job and paint the beard black. Hopefully they eventually make us nostalgic fans a snowcat. I will get one, I don’t think anybody will need more than that if they have snow cats.
Cobra Scarab: This one is interesting, I may get one to use for pimpdaddy destro to roll around in. Seeing as the stinger is getting released (YAY!!), I don’t think I’ll get more than one. The driver i would like to see with a visor down pose, he kind of reminds me of Motor Viper. The thing looks kind of cheep but will be popular with kids.
Rocksled: Thi one to me is all kinds of lame. Iceburg and a Polar battle bear would have been much more welcome. I know that a lot of GI Joe is Sci-Fi fantasy, but this thing looks really lame. Depending on the accesories for Snow Job, I probably won’t get one of these.
Now what we have to feer as colectors, with the movie coming out now there will be more competition to get these toys and the old stuff as well. We all ready have a battle between collectors, men reliving there childhood forcing joes on their kids, and viscious toy scalpers. We will now have the added competition of little johnny and suzzie wanting the new toys. Maybe TRU will expand their 4 foot joe sections, this will cause a spike in hasbro releases for sure, but the hard to finds will be all that much more difficult to pursue.

I too saw these on Wired and wondered why Wired?
These all look nice, even the oddly colored blue one.

Snake-Eyes is a Mr. Potato Head. No, that’s not some inside joke. It’s true. Just take it as written.
“Snake-Eyes is a Mr. Potato Head.”
Truly the first sign of the apocalypse.

okay from new pictures I saw of the night raven, it looks like the retraction piece is part of a pump action rocket firing mechanism. I’m only gettin one…. maybe not even that if the price point is going to be $50.00.

His name is “Snake-Fries.”
Jump: lots of ice is blue. It’s not like they made it bright orange or something…

I’d probably buy it if they did. I like machines disguised as sno-cones for arctic warfare. It’s sensy-bulls!

they’re saving that for the desert repaint…

Tenric, I’d suggest that the SPRING LOADED MISSLE LAUNCHER THAT REALLY SHOOTS INTO BILLY’S EYE! is what’s sending us back to the 90’s.

The Ice Dagger is a straight up repaint of a Valor Vs Venom Joe vehicle. Not necessarily a bad thing as the original was pretty cool for an arctic vehicle, it just had some minor problems but overall was decent.
That jet looks pretty awesome but the size is concerning, I’m going to have to see it in person before deciding if I want to purchase it or not. And here I thought I’d gotten away from buying Joes again…
